Las Iguanas - Canterbury — Restaurant in Canterbury

Massively disappointed with this place. From the start of our (rather short) experience, we were made to feel very unwelcome by this one female server (name on the receipt was Elle so I believe this was her). Not to mention, service was extremely slow considering the amount of people who were in the restaurant, and 2 of our drinks didn’t arrive until we said something.

We came in wanting to order bottomless brunch but were then told you had to eat in order to do the bottomless brunch menu. We were okay with this, and decided that from this, only 1 of us would do the bottomless menu and the other 6 of us would buy drinks individually. We were then told halfway through that the food was not included in the £31.95 price (which was made very unclear and not mentioned on the menu at all). We asked about this to a member of staff and Elle came over with a hostile attitude, saying we’re confusing the team. We politely explain the situation, despite the fact that politeness was not reciprocated and she walks off with little to say. I noticed her being chatty and polite to other tables but not us! Why was this not consistent?

We decided to get the bill despite about 1.5 hours left before the person’s bottomless deal ended, and then had to go up to them 3 times to amend the bill as they had charged us for things we didn’t order.

I feel this was certainly not the way to treat a group of people who are coming in to spend money, especially considering this was for a birthday celebration. We left moods ruined and...

Now I'll preface this saying this is a delight to have in canterbury and always my go to for a quick drink and lunch if I'm in canterbury.

My personal favorites being the beach cheese, brazilian curries and being able to almost fully customize most things on the menu if you just ask. The staff are wonderful and extremely accomodating!

However; our trip today was a little soured (perhaps literally) by the fillet steak skewers. My mother ordered this and was too polite to say she really disliked it and upon trying it myself it really wasn't up to the usual standard. The meat was grey and some parts were somehow overdone while others were almost blue. While edible, it wasn't enjoyable and most of the 2 skewers ended up squirrelled away into a napkin and disposed of. I'm unsure what caused it, but the beef did have a slightly odd smell (a raw meat smell is probably the only way i could describe it) with a tang that was probably from lime, but added with the smell made it seem a bit off.

Not to discourage anyone from trying out las iguanas though, this has been one off experience out of many fantastic ones, just maybe skip the fillet steak skewers, the chicken ones however are always a banger!

Its also a shame the iguanabana punch has been moved to the brunch only menu as it seemed missing from the normal cocktail menu, definitely ask if you can order it,...

My partner booked dinner here for us well in advance of arrival. The lady that ‘welcomed’ us in to the restaurant was as clear as mud about where we were sitting despite me having to ask 3 times where she meant and where we were supposed to go. We eventually sat down and then were left for a while before our order for drinks was taken. After some more waiting and confusion, another member of staff then asked if we wanted menus indicating a lack of communication between the staff. Our food arrived after a short wait. Some was cold and one dish was incorrect. The meat was inedible and gristly. While this was going on, a table of incredibly obnoxious, loud and inebriated youths were swearing and shouting their way through the extensive and overpriced cocktail menu. The staff were indifferent to this and made no effort to ask for them to tone it down a touch. We immediately requested the bill to make a sharp getaway but even this was an issue as we discovered that we had been overcharged by £12 for only £36 worth of food and drinks. Gabriel was the only saving grace of this experience. He was attentive and engaging throughout. He adjusted our bill and took some more off to apologise for the situation.
