We have been going to cozy cafe at Benfleet since just after COVID. From then until last week it has been very good, not the best but offered value for money and the food was good. We went there last week and it was total crap. My partner had a breakfast and the bacon was so touch she couldn't even cut it. My sister in law has poached salmon, although she said it was poached as it was dry and she felt it was deep fat fried. My lasagne was ok, but more like shepherds pie with some cheese on the top. Not a hint of any garlic. My son's meal was merely ok. The prices have gone up quite substantially but the food has gone down. We are creatures of habit so generally have the same dishes. So it wasn't like we had steak or anything expensive. The time before last we paid £44 for the meals and drinks. This time it was £50.90!! We all agreed there are far better value for money cafes around who's waitress doesn't almost throw the plate with the toast onto the table. Obviously something has changed, I don't know what and I won't be going back to see if anything changes for the better. The lowest number of stars I can give is 1 if it was 0 I would have gone for that. If you are hard pressed for somewhere to eat jump on Google and find somewhere else, that would be my...
Read moreWe had stayed with family after a night at Basildon theatre watching an excellent performance of Grease by the RARE Youth Theatre Group. So we decided to wander into Benfleet for Sunday breakfast at a cafe that none of the family had been to before. Service was welcoming and we managed to make a table for 7 even though there was a reservation sign on the next table. A good mug of tea came swiftly and the kids milkshakes (a Snickers and a Nutella) were apparently fantastic!! The varying breakfasts offered were very good, omelettes excellent, and the Chefs special brekky very good. Lots of toast for the table and a complimentary bowl of chips too!! It turned out that the reservation at the next table had been made by the other half of the family which arrived not long after us, which was a big and happy surprise. Overall, the staff were excellent, food hot, tasty and cooked spot on. Certainly one of the best cafes we have found in the Southend area. Parking was easily available in the Aldi car park (1 1/2 hours free), and yes, we did do an quick...
Read moreFirst and last visit. Awful service! In a half empty cafe we waited 15 minutes to take our order of a crepe, a cake, cookie dough and a panini plus 2 milkshakes and 2 soft drinks. We waited and waited and waited for our order. First one milkshake was wrong which took ages to replace. Then one soft drink came out with a glass one didn't. After another long wait the cake came out. Then a few minutes later the cookie dough came out. Then after another wait then the panini appeared with half melted cheese. Finally the crepes turned up. By the time they came my son had finished the cake! They're too busy dealing with uber eats to lool after the people sitting in!!! Waste of time and money... too much...
