Jimmy Mac's — Restaurant in Castle Point

Visited this morning. One of our kids sat on the bench and it broke into bits. No apology from staff, just told that it’s because a customer had moved it. Had to wait 30 mins for pancakes only for them to bring 4 our which got snapped up pronto. Waited 30 mins for sausages (the main event of any fry up) only for there to be 5 brought out which again, got snapped up by one of the 30 odd customers. Eggs was the same story with three being brought out every 15 mins. Ridiculous set up. Not geared up to have anymore than 3 families in at any one time. Also, no soft drinks other than apple or orange juice. Asked for a refund and pretty much had to argue with the woman for it.

Second visit - Visited this weekend for lunch. Sat at a booth and ordered at the bar, (could have offered table service seeing as we were literally the only group in there). I had the 'gourmet hotdog' it was dreadful, came served in a wrapper in a Styrofoam box and was clearly microwaved, worst hotdog i've ever had. They say on their menu that they don't use straws to protect the envioroment, but then serve food in styrofoam boxes and you get up and get your own cuttlery, which is of course plastic. Our three year old actually bit one of the plastic forks and we had to pull the fragment out of his mouth.

All in all i have visited 3 or 4 times for breakfast and had one bad experience, twice for lunch, which was equally disappointing. I'm afraid i will no longer be returning to Jimmy Macs,which is a big shame as i do try my hardest to support local business. This place could be a goldmine if someone with a good business sense and a basic customer service...

Normally thoroughly enjoy it here, service and food was always great... NOT THIS TIME!!

Walked in and it was empty (as it always is at around 5pm). Was handed two A4 sheets of paper for a menu and told to sit down, pick what we wanted and to come and order and pay at the bar(this confused me as you normally get table service).

Menu is even smaller then ever! No starters, side(other than chips) or desserts. Also no drinks menu. We ordered the carnivore platter (burger, bbq wings, ribs, chips and colslaw) as we normally do, a carling dark fruit cider and a diet coke. Our drinks came in a plastic disposable cup and a takeaway coca cola cup!!!

When the food arrived..... well what can I say? Our food arrived on one tray, the wings had no sauce on and in a polystyrene takeaway container, chips in a coca cola cardboard cup, burger was wrapped as if it had been ordered from burger king, no rib nor cutlury... OH, and no napkins to wipe your hands.

Give the staff their due, when they realised they had forgot our ribs they came to apologised and said they would bring them out. WELL.... they came out and strangely looked like it was a burger wrapped up. Opened it up and low and behold....IT WAS A RIB BURGER! Not only was it a rib burger, but we are pretty sure it was a rustler rib burger in a different bun with a bit of lettuce chucked in!

Safe to say, we ate as quick as we could and got out of there.

DEFINITELY will not be going...

What a venue! Went JM’s for 1st time yesterday to see the bands. Had a fantastic time! The live music set up is excellent. Great stage in the beer garden. Sound & acts was spot on! Was easy to order drinks & food. Despite how busy it was found the staff really warm & welcoming. Toilets immaculately clean. Prices sensible as well. With the rides and arcades next door it felt like a ‘mini old school seaside holiday in a day’ for my daughter & I! Thanks for the fun Jimmys/Canvey! If you take the bus like we did get off near the town/shops and stroll down as opposed to going end route like we did! Lovely locals super friendly about how to find JM’s. That said we had lovely walk along sea wall to find it! Will definitely be back / recommend for an evening of live music within safe & friendly...
