If I could rate lower than one star.. I would. Most people will choose to ignore this as they will just say “ahh it’s only one bad review” or “that persons just moaning about the smallest things” but..
I always used the Gloucester Burger Star because it was more convenient. But during the COVID-19 lockdown the Gloucester restaurant was closed. So to enjoy what was one of my favourite takeaways, I had to travel to Cheltenham. Which wasn’t an issue, as in my eyes, it was worth it.
The first two times visiting Burger Star during COVID-19 lockdown, my meal was incorrect. Not only being disappointing as you are rushed out of the door due to social distancing etc. But also annoying as by the time I had got home, I was 10 miles away to be able to say anything. But the first two times I let slide as it could of just been a minor mistake.
But for the third time, my order is incorrect and isn’t friendly to allergies. I specifically ordered my meal plain with just ketchup, boring I know. But it suits my allergies. The server even said as she took the order “Quarter Pounder with Cheese Plain” so I didn’t bother to check as this was quite reassuring. So I don’t know whether the people working in the kitchen have a hearing problem or if they’re just completely incompetent in following orders?
The main reason for this being so frustrating, is because:
Cheltenham is the closest Burger Star to my home address since the Gloucester one has closed and now reopened as “Burger Master”
Normally my bill comes to between £15-£25 depending on what company I have with me. This is a large sum of money for something that is completely wrong.
The staff preparing the food clearly have no care in what they’re doing, as they are not following orders and more importantly not following the customers request based on their allergies.
I can safely say this will be the last time I use Burger Star Cheltenham and I will opt to use Burger Master in Gloucester. Yes there is changes between Burger Star and Burger Master, but I will happily settle to not enjoy Burger Star’s Garlic Mayonnaise because of the sheer lack of service. I would happily recommend Burger Master to anyone though as the staff seem to pay attention whilst working and listen to what customers want.

Read moreBeen coming to Burger Star for more years than I care to remember but after today, I will not be back for some time. I ordered a ¼ pounder with cheese and chorizo, that's £5.55. Add small fries and a drink and that comes up to £9.60. That's a lots of money when you compare with McDonald's or Burger King. You could argue that the burger is nicer, and it is, but enough to price it at £5.55, well maybe just. But the fries let the meal down, they were just tasteless, I salted them but they just tasted like cheap fries. But what really let Burger star down was there customer service, or lack of it. Once my order arrived I asked for a dipping pot to fill with my choice of sauce but was told it was 30p, which I knew but had forgotten to ask for at the time of ordering. I handed over my card but was told cash only or minimum purchase of a pound. I had no cash. So was told to put it in the corner of the burger box. So I asked what was the 30p for if I could take the sauce anyway?! Was it for the pot? No, I was told, for the sauce and pot!! But I could take as much sauce as I wanted if just had something to put it in. The lad suggested I used a tissue... Really?!?! This for me spoilt the Burger Star experience. All over a 30p pot I was willing to pay for but did not have the change for. The stubborn, cocky and borderline rude customer service was not what I would expect there. So I cannot justify the overpriced burger as ultimately, it went down in lumps and left a...
Read moreIt's fine but times have changed.
Reasonable quality, standard frozen patty. Decent bun. American cheese. Iceberg lettuce, onions and tomatoes. But frankly, my local chippy does the same.
When you've got amazing burgers like Holee Cow down the road, Burger Star just doesn't quite cut it anymore. Sure, it's better than McDonald's or Burger King. But it's still a pretty basic standard burger.
Fries were a bit bland too.
Service was friendly enough and efficient. Decor is good: 80s style American burger joint, really clean. Perch on a stool if you want to eat in.
So: good. I'll eat there again. But it's not an "amazing burger". It's not even the best burger in Cheltenham. It's just a decent...
