Everything about this town centre pub is appealing. It's easy to write off such a pub as 'not suitable ' because it's location is directly onto the market square and many traditional pubs in these locations are described as "shabby" or "dives".... BUT DONT BE FOOLED inside is a delightful, busy, thriving pub. Yes it's quite dark but this only adds to a great atmosphere. There is a large selection of ales and ciders on-tap and many spirits to choose from... but the main attraction is the excellent food!!! They have a regularly changing menu and certain evenings of the week there are 'two for one' deals. They hold regular special events evenings including drinks tasting evenings and themed food nights. We attended a Jamaican night food evening. The meal didn't disappoint. There were five main courses plus mini cocktail to start and coffee/ tea to finish. The music was Jamaican themed... and the place was packed. !!! The young man ( and he was certainly young !!! )who served us was amazing. He had friendly conversation, answered questions and went to find out if he wasn't able to reply.. he kept us informed about the food we were eating and served with great attention. Big applause should go to the kitchen staff who work in the smallest professional kitchen I have ever seen. They work together like a well oiled machine and never appear flustered. The manager and bar staff are all great. I literally can't find any fault. ... the one drawback is parking especially during the day. The other added benefit is dog are allowed entry. Be aware it is a very busy place... AND irs cash only, so go prepared. I end by saying I have been many times to this pub, each time I have enjoyed my visit. From a quick coffee and snack lunch to themed evenings. YOU NEVER DISAPPOINT. I will be back and highly...
Read moreIt was once a lovely public house upon going there last Saturday It had a terrible smell like the public toilets in the market hall . The toilets actually smelt more cleaner . Also the fact that it was full of dogs not as in women but actual dogs . I understand people like dogs I like dogs too but not everyone else's. Barking at one another all taking up spaces . The floor needs bleaching and getting rid of the smell of dogs if that's what you want to do plus who wants someone else's dog sat there while you are having dinner on a date . If I wanted to see dogs with a beer a meal I'll go to Spital dog kennels in future as it wouldn't smell as bad and the pets are more controlled. What a lovely pub it was to cater for those that like a dog walk and come in for a presseco. I half expected Paul ogradie to walk in at any moment. Not for me if I do return it will be with a cropped and docked chocolate doberman pincher. Food wise its really gone down hill...
Read moreI absolutely love this place we dine here as often as we can. They are super accommodating for groups so we do birthdays there's quite alot. The food is the food is fantastic I've never had any complaints, I've now tried a bit of everything of the menu and its all been so good quality. There's not a kids menu but they do small portions of the larger meals for them which is great the kids like having the same as us. The vegan vegetarian menu is very good here there's a great choice my vegan friend is a huge fan of the vegan haggis. The staff are always helpful behind the bar In choosing the right cocktail for yog they make me special ones up. The kitchen staff need a little write up as they always deliver top notch food out of that little kitchen, they have great talents. And lastly the owner is so friendly he's always walking about making sure everything is running smooth chatting to customers he really makes us feel welcome. You won't be disappointed...
