Absolutely amazing space and great atmosphere looked after with a lot of personal attention and care by the owners of Odyssey restaurant. Beautifully decorated, full of light and fine touches of a Greek traditional tavern that makes you think as soon as you step out the door, you are going to walk on a sandy beach of an Aegean island. The food also follows Greek tavern traditional recipes with quality sourced ingredients from local produce. After the complimentary shot of ouzo, do try the dip assortment...Odyssey salad, dakos and feta (saganaki and bouyiourdi) one of my favourites starters along with dolmades dipped in greek yogurt. I've loved all the main dishes tried so far with the skewers and amazing youvetsi standing out, served with finely sliced perfectly fried fresh potatoes. The portions where more than adequate and marinated meat grilled perfectly. My all time favourite though and the reason why I always come back to Odyssey restaurant is the amazing gyros. 2 large pitta bread wrap chunks of tasty and juicy (not greasy) pork meat with tzatziki, tomatoes and onions served with fried chips. Having been fed with plenty of gyros during my uni years I can verify with years of experience that this is on of the best gyros I've ever had. Highly recommended is the seafood combined with ice cold tsipouro. Calamari, prawns, octopus and fresh steamed mussels accompanied by refreshing Greek salad will not let you down. The house wine is great and looking forward to try some of the Greek bottled ones on...
Read moreWe love Greece and Greek food so decided to go to the Odyssey for our wedding anniversary at the beginning of June. We booked for 6.00pm on a Friday to beat the crowds and when we arrived, we were pleased with the authentic decor and music. There were only a few tables with diners and did not think twice when we were shown to a small 2 seat table at the back corner of the main part of the restaurant. The servers were friendly, attentive and efficient and the food was excellent. We were really enjoying the evening until about half way through the meal, our enjoyment started to diminish rapidly. As the restaurant started to fill up we realised that the tables were very close to each other with a string of tables put together in a row directly adjacent to us and a 4 seat table to the other side. This left virtually no room to manoeuvre in and out of our seats and we had to disturb other diners in order to leave our table to go the loo. My wife has restricted mobility and has to walk with a stick due to arthritis in both knees and so this was very upsetting for her. When we did leave, I lifted our table and moved it forward in order to not disturb the diners at the back of me. All in all; great service and food marred by the poor seating plan so sadly we will not be returning. Ps I would not accept a comment from the manager to indicate that we should have highlighted my wife's disability as it was perfectly obvious that she was walking with a stick when we were shown...
Read moreAbsolutely brilliant experience.
Visited early on a Friday night. Service was spot on, waiting time was perfect. Didn't feel slow or too rushed. Greeted warmly and with a complimentary shot of Uzo. Greek music playing in the background and lots of trinkets from the island really help set the tone.
The menu is really nicely set out and helped give a real family feel to the restaurant.
Had deep fried feta with a jam as a start and my wife had baked aubergine. They're not messing about with portion sizes here. This Yorkshireman was very happy. Both were delicious.
Main course, I had the Odyssey mixed grill and my wife had the Greek meatballs.
Both were delicious. Mine was again a hefty portion and I left the restaurant feeling full but not uncomfortably so. My oy critique (and not enough to change from a 5* experience) is that the mixed grill was served with a sheet of grease paper underneath which went soggy and could've been mixed into the food. I'd have preferred this without.
They have bottles of Mythos available which is nice and was served in a frosted glass.
All told, 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 drinks came to just under £80 and was worth every penny.
Will absolutely be back and singing from the rafters about it. Can't believe it's took me this...
