Waited an absurd amount of time to be seated at what was labelled as a reserved table despite the lack of any reservations. Watched people come in after ourselves and being served before us. we were eventually served by an unnatentive waitress. Upon asking my order and clearly specifying what I wanted (hungry guest breakfast with hash browns and no tomato) she scurried off to the kitchen.
Fast forward three quarters of an hour and breakfast arrives with 2/3 plates being wrong. I had been given scrambled egg on toast with beans which couldn't have been further from what I had ordered. I told the waitress and my girlfriend approached the till to specify what was wrong with it (everything, scrambled eggs instead of fried, the presence of beans, the lack of sausage and hash brown). The waitress defensively said "well he never asked for fried eggs!" Never have I been somewhere that simply specified egg on the menu and then assumed that I would want scrambled eggs.
Finally (after another 15 minutes) the ammended order is brought over and yet again is wrong and lackluster. Having grown frustrated I neglected to ask them to get it wrong for a third time and ate what I had been given as apposed to what I ordered and it was incredibly underwhelming. The eggs (still scrambled) were covered in a thick layer of pepper, the sausage luke warm and spicy and the hash browns overly greasy. I began to eat but ended up leaving it as my irritation had superceded my hunger.
Whilst I have no objection to the cute notices around the cafe with "our food can take a little while but it's worth the wait" written on the mirrors, I have to dispute that it simply isn't the case.
Poor service from one rude and defensive staff member paired with having received the wrong order twice left a bad taste...
Read moreThis was a disappointing visit. I was impressed with the cafe when I first visited but it seems to have gone downhill. I had a small round quiche - quite nice in taste but very watery - I can see how this could happen with spinach but it should be possible to create something that works. It was very crumbly and fell apart on the rather small plate so was difficult to eat. The salad was a small pile of rocket. I couldn't believe the price for this - £12.95. £3 for peppermint tea is what you might expect for a pricey cafe but the teabag (presented in the cup still in its packaging) was separate form the tiny pot of water where it could have been infusing. It was so weak that I struggled to get enough flavour for more than one tiny tea cup. Unfortunately the ambience wasn't great either. The waitress was friendly and helpful but most of the time was chatting across the tables to her friend (who was there as a guest) while she sprayed and wiped them. This was distracting and I had to move tables to get away from them. Not the ambience I'd expect from the hungry guest...
Read moreVisited the Hungry Guest Cafe when it was in its old location and it was fabulous. Today was a totally different experience. The cafe is now outdoors only which seems like a very strange decision but covered by big parasols and there are blankets. When it came to ordering drinks we wanted to order breakfast tea and were told they had run out of tea, and only had peppermint. It is a Sunday but no cafe that is efficiently managed should run out of tea. There is a Co-op shop just across the car park so a bit of initiative from staff could have seen the problem solved. After a wait of approximately 45 minutes our food had not arrived and a waitress came to clear our drinks and asked if we had finished. We are pretty sure they had forgotten to put the food order through as it was only quiche and salad and a sandwich and the cafe was not that busy. When the food eventually came it was tasty but sadly slightly ruined by the wait. Having said that staff were extremely polite and friendly but won’t be enough to make us visit again....
