We were passing through and looking forward to a nice meal after a long journey, but The Star pub left us sorely disappointed. We called ahead to book a table and were initially excited about our meal. The staff promptly took our orders, but then the long wait began. It took 50 minutes for our food to arrive, despite the dining area being nearly empty. During our wait, the staff were noisily sorting out cutlery, seemingly for the entire month, making the experience unbearable. When our food finally arrived, it was mediocre at best. I ordered a chicken burger and fries; while the fries were nice (reminiscent of McDonald’s, which I consider a positive), the burger was the worst I’ve ever had—completely tasteless, like eating cardboard. My partner ordered fish and chips and found it equally unimpressive. We paid over £45 for two meals, a pint of beer, and a pint of pop. This price would have been acceptable if the food had been tasty, but unfortunately, it was not. We cannot recommend this place. If you still wish to put yourself through this experience, by all means, avoid the chicken burger. It seemed more like a drinks establishment for the locals, as there were plenty of people in their work clothes enjoying a pint. Perhaps it’s a nice spot for a drink, but as far as dining goes, it fell short of expectations.

The bar staff during our visit were pleasant. No problem there. The issue was with the food. Four of us waited at least 35 minutes before being served the Baked Camembert (2 couples sharing two portions). It was to be served with cranberry sauce and toast. Well, what a disappointment that was! Almost £15 per portion and it was served with processed brown bread, barely toasted. Very limp and completely unappetising. What not served with toasted sourdough or a decent slice of bread at least? But worse was to come. Attempting to eat the cheese, one had to be careful not to bite on RAW WHOLE GARLIC just pressed into the cheese! Two of us crunched into garlic and of course, this just about destroyed our palettes for the rest of this visit. This was just awful - we all agreed this was not a place to return too. No one asked if we were happy with the food of course. Had we not had to pay up front, I am sure none of us would have been happy to pay for this!

Not our first trip, but experience is getting progressively worse. Really lacking consistency. We went for lunch for my Dad's birthday at the weekend as he lives locally. Last time we ordered Cheesy garlic bread as aside it came as huge chunks of bread, really quite nice. This time it was 2 slices of ordinary bread, basically cheese on toast. It was servied on napkins, meaning we spent a lot of time pulling bits of paper out of the melted cheese. Really not reflective of the price. Another bit that really rubbed us up the wrong way was that we ordererd 2 portions of onion rings for the table. Each portion had 3 rings. We were sat by the kitchen and repeatedly saw portions of onion rings with 6 per plate leaving the kitchen. Why were we paying twice as much for onion rings? If you are low on supplies, or stock, take it off the menu rather than trying to cobble it together with what you have?!

Excellent pub at the heart of the town. We stopped here for lunch on a flying visit to Petworth House on our way to the Witterings on holiday. Brilliant Fullers pub in the heart of Petworth. Really friendly staff, very good choice of ales from Fullers, Dark Star and a unique selection of Sierra Nevada, not just the regular Pale Ale, also an orange, dry Brut IPA, California IPA, Sierraveza lager and I had the great Hazy Little Thing IPA, a very good choice. Lunch was great, prawn Marie rose pitta bread with generous salad and sweet potato fries, very good pub, well worth a visit.

After spending the morning exploring Petworth House and Gardens, my friend and I ventured into Petworth Town and stumbled across this beauty of a pub! Immediately, we were greeted by friendly staff and directed to our table. Service from the staff was always with a smile and the food was very delicious. I had the halloumi burger, and my friend had the beef koftas with a side of halloumi fries. Both dishes were enjoyed thoroughly. Great experience, and we would certainly visit again.
