Civerino’s appears in multiple critics reviews as one of the top 10 pizza spots in the UK. Now, it was thoroughly enjoyable experience however I wouldn’t travel for it further than inside Scotland. It is a cut above the generic takeaway pizzas, but isn’t on the same pay grade as pizza from the US. Not an overly big fan of Buffalo Mozzarella, this was a big part of the pizza as you can see from the photos.
The pizza doesn’t come cut, which is certainly a downgrade as it involves juggling a hot pizza pan with a pizza cutter. The do-it your way style isn’t up my alley and considering they have slice places, it’s quite counter productive. The cooking on the pizza was decent and crisp base with a solid crust. The sauce on the pizza was a higher quality than most, with the tomato shining a little too much. Regular mozzarella was a good standard and the flop ratio was consistent throughout. The pizza out of 10 is 7.6 - I’d travel from around Scotland to eat, but not quite UK wide.
My eating partner had the wild boar carbonara - the boar was chewy, chunks of fat from the boar protruding from the meat. Sauce was an okay standard, very cheesy. Spaghetti was good, however dense and claggy. 7.2 out of 10 - not bad.
We had the seasoned fries and these had been absolutely fantastic, taking me back to a childhood of eating away with no concern. I thoroughly enjoyed them and personally on the fries scale easily a 9.2.
The experience and ambience was exceptional with the waiters catering well to our needs. It’s a small subtle restaurant with a somewhat hipster vibe. Based on Edinburgh and Scotland’s pizza scene, it has to be in the top 5...
Read moreFriendly service, decent pizza and Chicago deep dish on the menu too. Affordable and filling.
My wife and I love Pizza so had to stop by Civerinos, especially when we saw they have Chicago Deep Dish on the menu. Having been to Chicago we are always on the lookout for deep dish in the UK.
The Hunter Square location is smallish with an 'american dinner' influenced decor. It was also pretty quiet for a Saturday night which surprised us.
We ordered the frozen margaritas to start which were okay. I would have liked to order a beer but they only have bottled beers at around £5.25 a piece. I was disappointed by the lack of a draft option and further disappointed by the lack of American beers in a pizza place serving deep dish. Having Goose Island, Samuel Adams or even something like Lagunitas on tap would have been a nice touch.
We ordered two deep dish pizzas and no starters as we felt they wouldn't be needed. The deep dish pizzas came out in around 20-30 minutes as expected.
The pizzas themselves were large and filling. My wife only had about half of hers. I personally thought the sauce to cheese ratio was a bit too heavy on the cheese side. Deep dish is a very cheesy pizza so the sauce is very important for breaking through all that dairy. The base felt like it was precooked, I'm not sure if the pizza was actually baked in a pan or not - it felt like maybe the bases are precooked and then filled and cooked again.
All up it was a decent dining and pizza experience. The deep dish was good but could have benefitted from more of the tomato sauce. I would like to come back and try some of the other pizzas to see how...
Read moreCiverinos in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town is a pizza lover's paradise. My recent visit to this Italian pizza place left me craving for more. What sets Civerinos apart is their mouthwatering thin crust pizza that's packed with flavors and aromas that transport your taste buds straight to Italy.
I couldn't resist trying their signature pizza, aptly named "The Civerinos." It's a pepperoni lover's dream, with generous toppings of savory pepperoni, italian sausage, double sauce, and a perfect blend of cheese. The thin crust had just the right amount of crispiness, making every bite a delightful experience.
To start our meal, we ordered the crust bites with all four dipping sauces. These little bites of heaven were not only delicious but also a fun way to kick off our meal. The variety of dipping sauces added an extra layer of excitement to the starters.
One of the standout aspects of Civerinos was the service. Despite the busy evening, our wait was only about 10-15 minutes, which was impressive given the popularity of the place. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcomed from the moment we walked in until we left.
The atmosphere in Civerinos is cozy and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a casual dinner or a gathering with friends. Whether you're a local looking for your pizza fix or a tourist exploring Edinburgh's Old Town, Civerinos is a must-visit for its amazing thin crust pizza, flavorful toppings, and top-notch service.
