Fairly disappointed ☹️. I made a special visit to Civerinos with the family about an hour after they opened on Sunday. After queuing for 10 minutes, I was asked to wait for another 5 minutes before they would take my order. After waiting, I was then told that my first 3 choices of pizza would be unavailable… frustrating! My fourth choice was available, however they wouldn’t sell it as a full pizza, only by the slice! This seemed to be a bit of a rip-off, especially as they were significantly more expensive to buy by the slice, and they would still have to make the large pizza first! Anyway, 15 minutes later, the slices arrived, and they tasted ok (nothing special), however they were cold, possibly because they were on paper plates, not in a box.

Now, I realise that I’m probably not part of Civerinos young, trendy target demographic, however I would expect a pizza shop that advertises 14” and 20” pizzas to actually sell them, or at least have a sign up before you join the queue so you can be aware that your not going to get what you want. Also, I’d expect them to be hot enough to reach the table before going cold… just call me old-fashioned!

To sum up my Civerinos Portobello experience: disappointed with the service, disappointed with choice available, disappointed with the price, and (slightly) disappointed with the food. I won’t be rushing back in the near future, and I won’t be giving my young trendy family a lift there next...

Thumbs up! Portobello was my first visit to Civerinos and other than pizza I wasn't entirely sure what to expect.

I'd describe this particular incarnation of the trendy and fun restaurant as largely a takeaway that just so happens to have some great seats. Those seats are outside. You can either sit out on the prom, people watch and experience the weather or sit with tables under a canopy. I went for the latter.

Importantly, the pizza was tasty, quick and good value.

I think many people would order a slice by walking to window that looks out over the sand and ordering there. I guess a good chunk of those people take their pizza with them.

I ordered a full pizza and I'm glad Civerinos made it clear this wasn't a good slice option. It would have been far too messy to try and eat on the move.

Tip; post attention to whether the pizza is marked as slice or not on the menu. It's probably more than a simple size recommendation.

My pizza would have been enough to share with one other. I did not, and ate it myself!

I think Civerinos do everything that can to look after you. However, the conditions of the promenade and weather are beyond their control. Expect lots of barking dogs and racing children. There are enough bikes and pushchairs passing that I'd advice keeping alert!

Lastly, it's a pretty good selection of pizza here. It's not a place with a Bible sized menu but nor is it a specialist with barely half a...

Went with a friend who is vegan and made this quite clear upon ordering. We ordered two vegan sides and a vegan pizza, the sides arrived covered in cheese and when I went to check that it was infact vegan cheese, as stipulated on the menu, I was told it wasn't and the staff member insisted that it wasn't vegan in the first place and began to argue with me. Eventually I had to get a menu to show her where it said 'vegan'. At this point a manager stepped in. We also discovered that the vegan mayo was also not infact vegan.

Finally, we were then served a vegan pizza which was missing many of the toppings and judging by the fact my friend was extremely ill later that evening, I suspect it was also made using regular cheese instead of the advertised dairy free.

We have subsequently sent two emails to two separate Civerinos email addresses and been completely ignored. Disappointing customer service from a business I've supported since its inception.

Be sure to avoid if you have any form of intolerances or allergies.

UPDATE: Almost immediately after his reply I reached out to Mark and I explained that the original emails had come from a different email address however we've had...

We went to Portobello on a weekend when the weather was gorgeous. Obviously we were not the only people who preferred coming down to the beach to soak some sunshine in. So queues before all shops were very long. We didn’t mind the waiting time. BUT there cannot be any good explanation for making your customers wait for a pizza for 35 minutes. They prioritise people who ordered slices rather than a whole pizza. By the time they called out our order no, more than 20 people who ordered after us had collected their orders. It was very annoying and maybe they could have warned us. And when we finally had our pizza, it was completely burnt underneath as you can see. Going back to the queue or complaining and waiting for another pizza for 30 mins was not an option for us so we had to eat barely one slice and throw the rest. Overall, I do NOT recommend this branch, especially on a busy day. They are not good at meeting high demand and making good pizza at the same time.

The quality of the pizza is so variable it must depend on the chef or the time of day. Sometimes I’ve had great pizza, sometimes a clearly reheated slice devoid of any flavour or toppings. What’s consistent is the appalling customer service - never a single smile or acknowledgment that your money is paying for bad pizza and keeps them in business. You’re treated like an inconvenience. In fact, when I was with a group of friends and we decided to go for pizza there, they were pissed off that we didn’t give them prior warning of our arrival. So don’t go for an ad hoc slice of pizza if you’re in a group. They seem to be surviving off being on a busy prom, not for the quality of the food or experience of customer service. I’ve given up being a customer, enough chances have been given. £11 for a can of coke and two slices of old reheated margherita hard as leather. Never again.
