What a great new addition to Edinburgh. It was busy when we arrived for Saturday lunch but we managed to find a spare table. The atmosphere is really nice, especially on a nice sunny day in which it was. There were I think 11 or 12 traders all serving a variety of different cuisines. Ordering was simple through the QR code but you can also order with the menu and also by speaking to the trader themselves. I went with the French cuisine at What le Duck. I had the confit duck burger with orange chili jam which was absolutely delicious!! The jam was the highlight for me. It was also a generous portion. With the burger I got a small fries with rosemary salt which were pretty good. I also got some haggis and duck bon bons which were tasty. I got a truffle mayo to go with which was quite nice. My wife got a chicken burger from Chix, which she appears to enjoy, and also a waffle fries which were also pretty good. The bbq sauce was damage. The service was mixed. One gent that served us was a bit expressionless and appeared a bit disinterested. The other girl that served us was a bit churpier. Waiting times were quite quick despite how busy it was. We had a girl singing and playing her guitar next to us which was a nice to have on in the background. Overall a good experience. You could argue that it was a wee bit expensive but the food was really good so you can’t complain too much. I’ll be back to try the other traders another time.
UPDATE: Been here a 2nd time and unfortunately the food wasn’t as good, and because it was busier we had to wait for an age before we were able to get a table. We ate from the pasta place which was nice although the Halloumi was lacking a bit of flavour and the arancini balls were ok. My bro had to wait far too long for an average mac and cheese from Chix. I still think this place is great but I think they maybe need to have a queuing system in place for when it gets busy. I also don’t believe the vendors are of the same quality so for those reasons I am changing this...
Read moreUpdate to my review - Things have definitely improved for the vegetarian options (not fully as some stands are still cross cooking contaminating veggie food in with fish and meat)
But Razzo Pizza Napoletana are amazing. Such a great veggie pizza and lovely toppings options. I will be coming back just for these guys.
Service was mixed. I know food comes out when it is ready, but there were 10 of us (first people in when it opened at 12o'clock) and 9 of us were finished two courses before one person was served their main course. luckily we had allowed plenty of time for food before heading to the theatre. The food was good and as long as you allow time, it is worth coming back. very handy for a group as no bill splitting and everyone pays their own when ordering, it makes it simple.
Previous review from 2023 Not good for vegetarians / Vegans as most of the food venues cooked vegetarian items in same fryer as meat & fish.
I really struggled to get something that was actually vegetarian here as although items were labelled vegetarian on the menu, I don't think they can be called that if they are cooked in the same fryer as meat & fish.
I asked the two members of staff who were welcoming and seating folk about how the food was prepared and they spoke with each food stands and came back to let me know what was suitable. Only Homies Pizza and Antojitos had anything suitable that was actually vegetarian. The pineapple tacos were tasty at Antojitos (although a little spicy for my taste) and the Homies pizza was good.
I was there with friends and they enjoyed their lunch. (they eat meat/fish and don't have any dietary requirements)
This could be easily fixed with a small separate fryers. This is 2023, not the 1990's, why is this still an issue? Food allergies / dietary preferences are well known and normally taken seriously, but not here.
Unfortunately, due to this, I wont be returning and wouldn't...
