The food my friends and I ordered was great but that’s the extent of the greatness…the overall hospitality service was really poor. • The tables were sticky • They didn’t have what we originally ordered so the staff had to come back and forth to tell us what was available to order and what wasn’t, it would’ve been better if staff communicated with the kitchen ahead of time and notified us when we were ordering to reduce disappointment. • When we tried to call over someone there was hardly any staff around to assist us • When the food arrived they forgot cutlery • We asked for water and then only asking for a second time it came out long after our alcoholic drinks. Then we ordered two more drinks that never arrived…by the time we managed to try and flag a staff member down to tell them I had finished my meal and didn’t want a drink anymore so just asked for the bill • When we waited for the bill for 10 minutes they didn’t come back and I think forgot about us so we went up to pay and then were a bit clueless about our second drink and I had to make sure that we took it off the bill so we were not charged for something that never came! • Honestly I had high hopes for this place but the service was really disappointing. If they are short staffed then it would’ve been appreciated to been told prior and there would’ve been a level of understanding. As I said food was really yummy, but wouldn’t go back when there are so many other pubs that do pies in Edinburgh…I can see I’m not the only one that feels this way, should of read the reviews...

The Conan Doyle is a quintessential Edinburgh pub that perfectly combines historical charm with modern comforts. Situated close to the birthplace of the legendary Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this classic pub offers a delightful atmosphere for both locals and visitors.

The traditional food menu is equally outstanding, offering hearty dishes that are perfect for a cozy meal. The fish and chips, steak pie, and haggis are particularly noteworthy.

The ambiance of The Conan Doyle is warm and inviting, with tasteful decor that pays homage to its namesake. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to offer recommendations or share a bit of local history.

Located in a convenient spot, it's an ideal place to relax after exploring the city or visiting nearby attractions. The blend of excellent food, a wide selection of drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere makes The Conan Doyle a must-visit pub in Edinburgh.

Overall, The Conan Doyle delivers an exceptional pub experience with its top-notch ales, delicious traditional fare, and...

Five stars to the server he was brilliant he did his level best but was let down by others . i ordered a Nicholson’s draught pale ale. He came back to explain it was out of stock i said i thought this was odd as this is your own ale? My wife ordered cherry tomato and onion tart -The server came back sold out . ok these things happen but could the kitchen let the server know what’s running low . My wife replaced that order with fish cakes two fish cakes but she was unable to find any fish and the accompanying salad tasted old . I ordered the Nicholson’s steak and and Ale pie . When it came the mash and green vegetables were cold. The server apologised and immediately offered to replace the meal and i accepted. The replacement came this time the mash was hot but the green vegetables again cold . I explained to the server that i thought the chef should not have let this happen twice. once and chef should have been on alert . At this point with my wife and i both disappointed decided we had enough.we paid for our drinks...

I had been recommended this place and was looking forward to going for dinner after going to a show at the Playhouse but how disappointed we were getting served food that was not edible..The starter of haggis neeps and tatties was tasteless... The main coarse was steakpie which was pure grissle and the chicken pie had little chicken in it and was cold in the middle when seved I felt sorry for the waitress who was run off her feet due to lack of staff but was very apologetic and to be fair we were refunded the cost which was appreciated. The first impression wasn't good either as the table was sticky.... so bad that we nearly need a scraper to lift my fone from it. I don't like giving negative feedback but for this experience I feel I needed to.☹️ Hopefully it will make improvements as looks like it good wee place.
