My friend originally wanted to go to the Chinese buffet next door at COSMO but they were too busy and the queue was long. We needed to grab something to eat as we were going to the Tattoo so we didn't have time to wait around. Outside was very busy with people having a drink and we were going to go inside to Nando's. However once inside the shopping centre, we could see The Playfair had more space/seats inside. We found a seat easily and ordered quickly. Although super busy, it was easy to order and food was delivered quickly. Although I have been to different Spoons branches many times back home in London, I had never had the curry before so I was a bit apprehensive what to expect. I needn't worry. The food was tasty and filling. I thought the portion was a little on the small side but the Naan Bread and Poppadoms fill you up. Good prices and value for money and I got my Alcohol free Kopperberg fix so I was happy. If you aren't fussy and don't mind simply, tasty food then Whetherspoons is your go to place. Toilets are clean but the sink basins are a bit funnily placed low and the taps are put in at an odd angle. Aside from this, good place to eat.

Good for causal gathering with a small group friends. Lots of small tables for 4 or 2 persons. Open till late, with pub feel (but also offer coffee with free refills). With seats near big glass wall seeing outdoor or seats near deeper hall with dimmer light for relaxing mood. Reasonably priced food from burger, pizza, simple curry, or so. Near city centre, the Princes Street and Waverley train station, and the tram route. Unless you have a very heavy luggage, good for travellers who arrived train station too early and want a coffee break somewhere less busy but still within 15 min walking distance, (be aware that part of it is a bit uphill). As of 2024Apr, Thu special, classic curry, cheaper than non-Thu, enjoyed chicken karma (?) very much. Oops! Came here a few times, at times, even with so many tables, this could be fully occupied. So, check the Google map if “busier than usual”, before a big group going.

Traumatic. Never been treated so badly in any pub. Regardless of Covid. On arrival we were not given a choice of whether we wanted to sit inside or outside in the Centre. At 9.20 the doorman whose behaviour was very aggressive at all times put a sign on the table saying closing at 10pm. Then at 9.30 came around shouting last orders. A couple joined us saying they had been told by the doorman that even though the bar was still open till 12 am they would not be allowed to move indoors but if they were to walk outside and back in again they would be permitted to enter. They asked to speak to the Manager and were told he was on his break. We too then enquired about the process and eventually the manager appeared who I might add all the time was serving tables so wasn't in fact on his break and his explanation was : his decision not to allow anyone who had been sitting outside in regardless of whether they had eaten or what because there are nightclubs etc around and they might want to come in. I said there was empty tables inside and again he said he was allowed 180 in and if there was 150 in he needed that space for random people coming. It didn't matter if we had already eaten or had a drink basically we had provided enough sales and youngsters from nightclubs who may or may not come in were more important. Would I visit again? Definitely not. Does the Manager need customer service training? Definitely. Do the doorman need extra training? P45 would be more than adequate. It's a very sad day when youngsters are left to run a well established business and at the end of the day are the actual top management bothered? No!! As you can see by the photos it's soooo busy!!!

Shocking service ! Given incorrect drink, and the duty manager was so unprofessional, wouldn’t change it . When our vodkas come to the table, I seen they put that green lime cordial into my glass. I strongly dislike it the taste and gives me stomach pains. When I asked for his name so I can raise a complaint, he took my drink off me and placed it behind the bar. My partner and I were then told to “get out we were not welcome .” My partner is a General Manager in a central restaurant, so tried to reason with this Team member. I’ve served in the Royal Air Force for years and this Customer Service and way he treats a customer, i couldn’t believe it . Our very first drinks well. We ended up at another Wetherspoons afterwards, the Caley Picture house and received excellent service from that restaurant. Shows you, one place can really let a company down . I’d also like a refund for my incorrect drinks we never got to enjoy.

Decent quality Witherspoon's close to the heart of Edinburgh's tourist attractions. Cheap beer, by Edinburgh's standards and decent food. Has the usual table service, beer ordered on the app at 7.30pm on a Friday took less than five minutes, which is more than acceptable. The Playfair is open from 06.00 until 01.00 every day, so it is a good place for a quiet late drink. It can get busy sometimes, but it is often very quiet. The Playfair is located inside the Omni Centre, so the outside seating is still technically inside, so it is usually a pleasant temperature. Good WiFi is also available. Definitely one of the better Wetherspoon's I've visited. Check it out.

Pretty typical spoons - there’s cheap drinks at the compromise of atmosphere. Pride is in town today so that livened things up a bit with lots of rainbow flags and people generally celebrating which was nice to see. Given it’s central Edinburgh, prices are a tiny bit more expensive than your typical spoons but still very reasonable and far cheaper than what you’ll get elsewhere. For smokers, outside is split up into two sections: one for smoking and one for no smoking. Smoking section is on your right as you face towards the entrance. If you smoke on the other side, you’ll be asked to move.
