My partner and I stayed at Premier Inn for 4 nights while visiting Edinburgh. Overall, the room was fine, but we had issues with the booking process and bathroom.
Pre-Arrival / Booking Process: We booked an accessible room directly on Premier Inn’s website. After completing the booking and being charged £579, the website said the booking had failed. I tried calling the hotel several times but got no answer, and had to contact customer service the next day. They confirmed the booking didn’t go through, but said the payment would be refunded within 10 days.
When we rebooked, the room price had risen to £630, which seemed unfair given it had only been a day. After some negotiation, they agreed to book it at the original price, but with payment on arrival. However, about a week before the trip, we received confirmation that our room type had been changed from a wet room to a lower bath. I didn’t question it at the time, but later regretted that decision.
The refund eventually came through, but the whole process was frustrating and left me feeling uneasy about Premier Inn’s reliability.
Check-In/Out: Check-in was smooth, though one of our key cards didn’t work and had to be replaced. After that, both cards needed replacing, which was a minor inconvenience.
Location: The location was excellent. We were attending an event at the Omni Centre, and the hotel was just a short walk away. It was also close to Waverley train station, St James Quarter, and had great public transport links nearby.
Room: The room was spacious, clean, and the bed was comfortable. However, Premier Inn requires you to request room cleaning by 12pm each day, which I found inconvenient. We forgot to request it 2 out of 3 times. When the room was cleaned, they changed towels but didn’t make the bed or change the sheets, which was disappointing.
Bathroom: We originally booked a wet room but were switched to a room with a low bath, which caused issues. The grab handles were placed awkwardly, and the bath was narrow, making it uncomfortable to shower. The shower curtain didn’t fit properly, causing the bathroom floor to get soaked. We had to request extra towels to mop up the water. This, combined with no toilet brush, made the bathroom experience less than ideal.
Dining: We didn’t use the onsite dining facilities, so I can’t comment on that.
Value for Money: For £580, I expected better service and amenities. Premier Inn seems to be cutting costs while raising prices significantly. In comparison, other hotel chains at a similar price point offer better service, including daily room cleaning and more functional bathrooms.
Conclusion: We will reconsider staying at Premier Inn in the future due to the poor booking experience and disappointing value for money. If you stay here, confirm your room type in advance and be cautious during the booking process. Based on this experience, we’ll likely try other hotel chains for...
Read moreWe came to this hotel on the 13th of August 2024. Prior to coming to the hotel, I emailed them to let them know I was blind to see if I could get a room near the ground floor. They actually put me in room 106 which was just, outside the lifts on floor one. This was perfect. This hotel is exceptionally expensive and definitely not good value for money. On entering our room we discovered that the window could not be opened. This is disgusting and is a fire risk. To have to rely on Aircon only, when Covid is still going around is not acceptable. Also the soap dispenser and shower gel dispenser should not be being used again because of potential spread of Covid. Also, you did not get flannels in the bathroom and the towels were very limited indeed. There was three of us in the room and we only had 2 cups and two glasses, also we all wanted to pillows and we could only have one each because they were no spares in the room. We had to ask twice to get an extra cup glass and pillow which is not good enough also you should not have to ask for your room to be cleaned it should be done automatically unless there is a do not disturb sign on the door. The other thing that really angered me is that you had to get your own teas and coffees along with all the other items such as milk and sugar, this should have been put in your room daily but it wasn’t. we went for an evening meal in the hotel on the 13th of August which was our first of two nights and it was disgusting, the chips were very hard and they were frozen chips not fresh. The amount of food you got was not worthwhile at all it was extremely expensive and very disappointing. The breakfast was just what you would expect from this kind of hotel but I would’ve expected to have the Scottish items on there such as haggis and potato cakes which are a Scottish dish. For me as well the other thing that let it down was the fact that you never had a receptionist on 24 seven even when there was no receptionist there was no security guard present which meant that this hotel was extremely exposed, to potential terrorism act or even people who were not staying at the hotel to roam the corridors. It’s a big shame because this hotel is extremely central but it does have lots of things that need addressing. All in all I would not stay here again because it was far too expensive for...
Read moreIf i could give this place negative stars I would!!! It was the worst service and most horrible environment I’ve ever experienced. Firstly, we had to wait hours to be checked in and we had to sit and wait on the curb outside in November! Secondly, I had booked a room to accommodate me and my sisters but when I arrived they said we couldn’t stay in the same room even though i specifically booked with three beds. We tried to nicely arrange and sort this out when the most horrible and ignorant woman approached us. Her name is Angela. She was belittling us and wouldn’t let us get a word in, only continued to tell us we would have to pay €400 for another double sized room even after we told her our mother had just passed away that’s why we were on this, what was supposed to be relaxing, trip. We stood there for hours crying and panicking on what to do as we had just flown four hours to stay there and had no more money as we already had our room and expenses paid for. We eventually had to get money sent to us by our family across seas and pay the €400 for another pointless room (that stayed empty through the time we stayed there as we all stayed in the original room) with no discount or anything. There was however a kind worker named John who tried to help us but when Angela seen her coworker help us she only got annoyed with him. Anything John tried to help us with or compensate to us Angela shut down immediately. John said we could enjoy the end of the breakfast as it was going in the bin anyways but when Angela seen this she ran over and closed the breakfast station and wouldn’t let us eat it. We then felt shunned out for the rest of our trip. On our last day we went to collect our bags and we were left waiting for a long time before Angela threw them aggressively into the lobby and walked away. This was by far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in and the most horrific holiday experience...
