Gladstones — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

I had passed by but never been into Gladstone's but decided to pop in at lunch whilst nearby. It was relatively quiet having only been open for 20 minutes but over the following hour built up a decent number of customers that gave it a good bustle of activity. It has all of the things you would expect from a pub such as music, sports on TV, table football, dominoes with a good selection of spirits and beers. Where Gladstone's excelled for me was in the food. They have a menu that has a good spread of different but in some ways safe options, fish and chips, curry, burger etc and this is where I feel they undersell themselves as the all day breakfast I ordered was possibly the best cooked breakfast I have ever had alongside being truly huge. Had I not eaten at all that day it would have defeated me! Likewise my wife's macaroni was more than she could finish even though she really wanted to as she was enjoying it that much. These large portions come at a very reasonable price and in some respects too cheap. They really could put the prices up and it would still represent excellent value for money. The staff were all happy, speedy and chatty and were quite to be welcoming which really helps anytime you enter somewhere new. If you are in the area I absolutely recommend you go here....

Called in here a few nights in a row when I was stopping just a couple of hundred yards away. The place was clean and warm with polite staff who were constantly cleaning down the bar top. A good selection of beers and lagers and a cracking pint of Stella at not rip off prices as seems to be the norm at a lot of the bars around this area that seem to think they are some thing they are not. There seemed to be a lot of locals using the bar which say's quite a bit.Will return when...
