We had the most brilliant food at Kafeneion to Steki. After a warm welcome from the new Mediterranean team, we enjoyed the relaxed and attentive atmosphere the whole night (you can tell just through the atmosphere and the language surrounding you that it’s the real Greek/Cretan deal!)

Food was exceptional, served promptly by the chef. She had selected high quality ingredients and treated them with love. Simple and delicious. Charred sardines, braised and charred octopus, thyme potato chips, Smokey aubergine dip, homemade bread and garlic mushrooms. All good value, food plus drinks. One of the best meals we’ve ever had in Edinburgh, in over a decade.

We can’t wait to come back! Worth a trip down the Water of Leith for...

They're quite slow, they opened basically 30mins after they're supposed to

Fortunately, they gave us a plate of assorted starters to compensate for the wait. The feta was particularly good. It's a different level from most you encounter. Pita is just as good, I haven't had better pita in Edinburgh.

The whipped feta is good but the portion is way too big, it gets super boring after a while, not meant for two

The hand kneaded bread was terrible.

The calamari octopus orzo pasta was very homely, very basic, mild flavours. Wasn't quite what I was expecting to be served at a restaurant, more like food for sick people, even tho it's pleasant

Maybe we should have gotten their grilled stuff, but from what we had, this place...

We stumbled upon this hidden gem by luck and are so thrilled that we did! We had the most incredible food and friendliest service in a cozy atmosphere. We had the Greek salad, aubergine dip (unreal), feta in phyllo with honey, prawns (I could drink that sauce!!) I even got to relive my honeymoon with a bit of mystiha and lemonade! Plus homemade ice cream (strataciella and almond) with our Greek coffee to finish. Portions were more than generous between the two of us. Food was so fresh and flavorful. We had such authentic food and even lovelier service, I wish I got our server's name. But even the ladies in the kitchen came out to help and chat. We felt like family and were fed like it too. Already planning to...

I have walked past Kafeneion every day for almost a year and only recently went for dinner and I regret not going sooner!! I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the ingredients, the food, the service and the atmosphere. I rarely come across somewhere where I am lost for words with how stunning the experience is. It was so fantastic I have recommended Kafeneion to everyone I know and have been back several times since. You can really sense the heart and soul that goes into each dish and service. I would eat here every day if I could! My favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. Thank you for bringing such a beautiful dining experience to Edinburgh.

This is one of the best places to dine in the city! The atmosphere is warm, friendly and relaxed. Great options with so many interesting dishes! Tigania (chicken or pork) and Strapatsada (eggs) are simply unmissable! My personal favourite is Sikoti (pan fried lamb liver). A really unique delicacy. Pair these with exceptional wines and beers and you are sorted for an amazing evening. I visited again for brunch after a few days and I was again stunned by the tasty options and the quality of the ingredients. With so many options, there's something here for everyone! Well done girls. Keep up the great work!
