To begin with, the table for our reservation was late; when we were eventually seated, we had five of us uncomfortably squashed onto a four person table. We then had to wait 20 minutes to have our order taken (even drinks) because “the kitchen was too busy”. Some of our drinks were forgotten and we had to remind them. We had to wait for an hour to get our food, due to the poor service we felt it unreasonable to pay the service charge and asked for it to be removed. At this point, the manager came out and rudely demanded we pay it citing “Scottish law” and proceeded to threaten to call the police. Oh and the cherry on top, they charged for tap water (£3.45!), which is illegal.
Some truly shocking service and rude management.
EDIT The response they provided just sums up the service, refusing to take responsibility and admit fault.
The entire point of a service charge is that it is OPTIONAL! If it wasn’t optional, you would simply make all the prices 10% higher in the first place, no? Have you considered simply paying staff a fair wage without them having to rely on tips?
The first staff member whom I asked to remove the service charge due to the 1 hour+ wait time was friendly and said yes of course, no problem. The manager later stepped in creating the fuss.
We asked for water for the table, at no point did I mention the word bottle, nor was I asked by staff. Having been to countless Neapolitan restaurants, including in Naples, it is standard to provide free water for the table without even requesting any.
Also totally forgot to mention that when they did eventually remove the service charge from the bill, they tried to sneakily add it back onto the card machine hoping we didn’t notice as we made the payment.
The entire situation was just fuelled by management greed, it’s borderline scam like.
If you find yourself in Scotland and aren’t limited to Edinburgh, do yourself a favour and make the trip to Paesano in Glasgow for a proper Neapolitan...
Read moreWe've been ordering from here just about every week during lockdown and we're looking forward to actually eating there when things open back up.
We're big fans of Naples and Neapolitan food and are delighted that this brilliant and authentic pizzeria is just down the road from us. The dough is soft and thin in true Neapolitan style, with a light, airy crust. The toppings and flavours are exactly what you'd find in a family-run pizzeria in Naples itself. This is real stuff, done the real way, from the real people.
One of us has the 'la piccante' every time, and why not? It's really good I've tried most of the pizzas and have several I really like but my favourite is the 'a salsicc' e friarielli', a classic Neapolitan staple in a bowl or, as here, on a pizza. Done with broccoli, sausage, cheese and a hint of heat, it's kept me going through lockdown. Highly recommended!
On of us regularly has the 'pasta dello chef' and likes that a lot. Another regular we choose is the starter 'cuoppo di terra' which could have been lifted straight from a Neapolitan street. A typical selection of street food including deep fried pasta!
Basically, this is the place to go for Neapolitan pizza the way...
Read moreThe owner/chef is so rude and for that reason we will never be back. We ordered a “star special” pizza so that we could try the “8 different toppings” however there was NO MENTION on the menu that it came with a white base, no tomato base anywhere. Generally you would expect some tomato base on at least half the pizza but to have no mention anywhere on the menu. The extra dough due to the “star” shape needs a dip or something to soak. When we called to query it we were met with an argumentative obnoxious attitude from the owner who would not even let me speak and completely disregarded what i said. He went on to talk over me telling me i should have read the description- the description does not mention the base. The point is not even the pizza anymore but the shocking attitude of the owner on the phone. We have been customers for about 4 years but stopped ordering takeaway due to the minimum order being £20, now with the owner being rude we will never be back and will tell all our family never to use this place. So sad because the actual food quality is really good and the carbonara is exceptional. But customer care goes a long way in keeping loyal customers. So its...
