I came to The Village Cafe after a bad experience at a different nearby cafe where after 45 minutes I never received my food. Needless to say, when I arrived at The Village Cafe I was absolutely starving. It was packed but there were 2 tables outside. Despite it being windy and 9 degrees, it was at least sunny so I asked if I could sit outside. The server who greeted me was outgoing and friendly and asked if I had been served. I told her no and asked to sit outside. She replied something to the effect that it was a bit cold outside and she was sure they could get me a table inside. Within minutes a table was free and I quickly ordered the cheeseburger. My food came out maybe 10 minutes later. It was delicious. Being American, Iâm a bit of a burger snob. The burger was juicy, the chips were crispy, the salad was fresh. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Really lovely neighbourhood cafe. Will be back and hopefully have room to try some of...
Read moreCoffee and pastries are amazing, but when the place is busy the service is not the best. Today I've had tea, coffee and a scone with my friend and after about half an hour the waitress brings us the bill on the table without even asking if we're good or want anything else. Because it's a Sunday morning it's quite busy, so we order more food and coffee to stay and chat more. After a while, the same waitress asks if now we're ready for the bill, whispering that "now it's been over an hour, so..". At this point I was really annoyed and found the comment quite rude, so I just wanted to be out the door. It's a brunch/coffee place, I get business is business and seats are limited but you can't ignore the social aspect of this kind of activity. Overall we've stayed around one hour and a half, ordering twice, if this means overstaying then next Sunday I'll go somewhere else. Shame though, pastries are obscenely good and coffee is one of the...
Read moreLovely decor and, as mentioned in previous reviews, the waitress was so helpful and went over and above her role. The disappointment though was the bacon role with two rashers of bacon. Either make it three or use smaller rolls. Hubby gave me a rasher of his bacon to compensate otherwise it would have been a crispy, buttered roll. Hubby had a tasty Scottish breakfast which would have been spot on but for the fact all but the link sausage was tepid. The presentation of the breakfast was nice, however, every time he cut his food the rectangular plate moved so after a while the clinking of the plate against the other items on the table was a bit annoying. Never really saw the advantage of round plates until now. LOL. Overall a lovely cafe. Prices as to be expected...
