I will try to be as unbiased as I can in this review.
tldr; Waited 40 minutes for our food to be served, got screamed and yelled at for inquiring if our food was ready. Up-charged us with substantial markups with tips and conversion fees without asking.
When we arrived at the place it was half empty thus was offered a table fairly quick. Unfortunately it was all downhill from there.
We placed our order and also asked for tap water. After about 15 minutes the waiters saw our empty table and finally SLAMMED the drinking glasses and tap water glass. We were alerted but still try to make light of the situation. “Oh boy if it took this long to get our water I hope it won’t take another 30 minutes to receive our food.” Little did we know…
After another 15 minutes and seeing the tables that came in after us already received their order I decided to ask the waitress if our meals were ready. “I’ll check” said the waitress, without even looking at our direction. Again, the restaurant was not busy.
After another 10 minutes, I decided to ask the receptionist and the waiter that if our order didn’t make it to the kitchen or it somehow got lost it’s okay, but we would like to leave. The waiter looked at me, gave me a smirk and walked away. It was at that time the waitress showed up with our food and screamed from across the room “YOUR FOOD IS READY!!!” The receptionist took the opportunity and also yelled in my face “IT’S HERE NOW OKAY!!” The subtle cues implying how dare I inquire after 40 minutes of wait and I should know my place and how dare I talked to them.
Sadly, it was only half of our orders. I had to wait another 10 minutes before receiving my order. During this time, another patron that showed up during our wait also received their order.
Just when we thought the nightmare is finally over and asked for our cheque, I carefully examined the orders and made sure they are right. I paid with my card and received another cheque with a different number. The waiter bait and switched us . We were charged with substantial markups of tips and currency conversion fees. I was not asked if I wanted to leave tips after the disgusting attitudes exhibited by the three people from this establishment. I was also not asked if I wanted to pay in pounds or dollars, which the receipt clearly states “the customers have been offered a choice of currencies.” I’ve paid at other places previously and the card machine would ask which currency I wanted to pay before processing the payment, so I know what the process should be. Not the case here.
It’s our first time visiting Edinburgh, so we want to be extremely mindful and respectful. During this whole time of unfair treatment we kept it to ourselves and did not make any scene or fuss.
I want to leave the review here not to deter other people from dining here, because I know that won’t happen. But I want to let you know that this happened, and it’s a grim reminder that not everyone is welcoming nor accepting, even in a place like Edinburgh. I feel defeated, confused and sad. How can they display such hatred toward other...
Read moreZERO stars. I recommend you stay away from this place. Do trust the previous negative reviews. I should have never set foot there. My elderly parents and I (especially my father, who is handicapped) were extremely mistreated by the waitress at this awful place during a visit to Edinburgh. It was the most horrendous experience I have ever had in any type of food establishment – and I've been to countless in numerous countries, from street food and fast-food joints to Michelin-starred restaurants.
The waitress (named Marilyn, as written on our receipt) should not be allowed to work in any environment in which there is any kind of contact with customers. She mocked my father, said he doesn't know how to speak English – not only an unacceptable thing to say, but also untrue! He may not be fully proficient (and I was there to help), but oddly enough, the waitress' English is actually much worse (not that it should matter at all, but quite interesting, considering her mockery of my dad). The waitress was incredibly impatient, rushed us to choose something within five seconds after informing us that they didn't have the lamb-chops my father had ordered ten minutes prior... And then she got confused with our order and tried to blame it on my parents, implying they are senile (!!!), besides making fun of my father's English. We cancelled the order altogether and paid for the water we had drank. We told the only employee who was there, a waiter, about the incident, but he just stood there, and this report seriously needs to reach the owner. This experience almost ruined the first day of our vacation, and people (especially paying customers) should not be disrespected, EVER. We are very polite folks and were going to stay there for the meal despite the waitress' clear impatience, but that person obviously dislikes human beings, and the way she treated my elderly dad escalated, so we left. Simply appalling.
Despicable place, and it was definitely not a clean environment. Actually, good for us that we didn't ingest anything coming out of...
Read moreIf could give zero star I would as this experience was the most terrible. I came for 3 days trip to Edinburgh with my sister and her partner and came in to this food place to have dinner. My sister and her partner ordered a vegetable Ramen soup which was reminding us of a dish washing water, it was no taste and no vegetables in the ramen. Was the most disgusting dish I ever seen in my life, no taste. My dish was an egg noodle sweet n sour chicken. The egg noodle was tasting like a watery over boiled pasta and chicken was tasting fridge and watery. We complained to the waitress who was very rude and tried to explain this dish should taste like this. We ate so many times this dish in Wagamama or other noodle places in Manchester and the tastes was totally different. After the dishes we all had belly pain and diarrhoea. When I said to the waitress I don’t like the dish she didn’t offer any discount or anything. I only ate couple of spoon from my dish and I left it. I never leave dish on the table but I was scared if I eat it I’ll have food poisoning. When the waitress came over I explained her I don’t like the dish and is not tasting anything like it should be taste. She was very annoyed and laughed and said to me ‘firstly this is not a pasta this is an egg noodle and secondly it should taste sweet n sour’ I replied back to her this is the main problem this dish doesn’t even taste sweet or sour it just taste water. I offered to pay her even I shouldn’t but she didn’t even offer any discount. We split the bill and my dish price was 10.50£ and she even charged me 11.50£ for I don’t know what reason.
I was very disappointed because we travelled 5,5 hours to Edinburgh and we was very hungry we was hoping to eat some nice dish to get back our energy and we ended up more hungry and scammed as we had to pay this amount for a terrible food. Please if you are coming to Edinburgh save your money and energy and go to somewhere else, you might going to pay more money but it’s better than paying less amount and throwing out from the...
