0 Stars Should Be An Option
TLDR; waited over 90 mins for food, orders were incorrect, didn't receive cutlery or napkins, staff were rude and most avoided taking any responsibility
I don't normally leave negative reviews and prefer to give feedback directly, but after being ignored and brushed off by multiple staff, I feel this is necessary.
I went to this restaurant yesterday with a group of people for my friend's birthday. We had an event to get to afterwards, and gave ourselves a two hour window - which should have been plenty of time to order, eat our food, and pay, even with a larger group.
A few people had gotten there early and already ordered, so we put in our orders seperately, not long after. Our drinks and two starters arrived, but after almost an hour of waiting (from the time of ordering), our food still hadn't arrived. We asked if it was coming, and were assured that it would be 10 minutes. 20 minutes later, the food still hadn't arrived. We asked again, and the waiter we spoke to held up his hands and said he didn't have anything to do with it.
We ended up having to ask for the bill before the food even arrived to make sure we could make it to our event.
When the first round of food (aside from the two starters) arrived, we were not given napkins, and one person received the wrong side and was told it would be corrected. We had to go up to the bar to ask for napkins and cutlery. The few of us who had ordered slightly later asked if our food was on it's way and the waiter asked us what we ordered and wrote it down again to bring back to the kitchen staff. One of our servers did actually apologise (the only apology we received all evening) and said she could bring takeout boxes for us so we could take the food with us. We had to follow up again about 15 minutes later, and were assured it would be ready within five minutes.
We finally got our food 1 hour and 27 minutes after ordering (no takeout boxes), and I received the wrong side as well, which I pointed out. We were also not given cutlery or napkins. They (thankfully) brought the correct side out - prompting the first person whose order was incorrect to follow up again and ask where theirs was (almost two hours after he had first ordered). Most of our group had to leave to make sure they weren't late for the event we had following (again, two hours should have been more than enough time).
The food was fine - though very messy for having not been given napkins, and mine was slightly burnt but after waiting for so long and being brushed off so many times, I didn't bother bringing it up. We ate as quickly as possible and headed out - without being acknowledged by a single member of staff who were completely avoiding us by that point. When we left there was a large group of people waiting for our table that were obviously incredibly annoyed at having been made to wait after their reservation time for our table to be clear.
This is by far and away the worst experience I have had at a restaurant and with waitstaff. I understand being busy and understaffed, but the lack of accountability and service we recieved was astounding. Will avoid...
Read moreIn Edinburgh for a 5 day trip and my partner stumbled across this establishment on a solo walk and decided to book a table in advance for the Saturday evening meal for a special occasion we were celebrating.... The menu ticked all our favourites steak burgers chicken - you name it it's on the menu....
We ordered 3 starters to share - the scotched egg first time taster and it was lovely.... the chicken bites - decent but noting freshly prepped about them but hey that's fair too. The fried Calamari was horrible - soft grease soaked batter with what was like an elastic chew middle no taste... we didn't eat more than one bite each! I've had better from the supermarket cooked at home.
For our mains - we ordered two "steak" burgers the OX184 with everthing on it. My partner ordered the loaded fries with mac and cheese on
The "steak" burgers were not made from freshly ground meat- they were way to processed and chewie for this. Our food was not hot but luke warm. The kitchen was asked to add the loaded fries on [mac and chesse] after they forgot my the server! While they did this they left our food sitting in the hot plate for a unacceptable period of time. We could see this all in action as seated oppisate. The mac and cheese was still cold along with the sauces in particular. On request for them to be heated we got back the same sauces and colder than they went back. The chips were, I'm going to guess recooked or else their oil is dirty as they were black and crunchy.
We abstained from dessert as we had enough of they poor food quality!
On paying I tried to talk to our waitress but she didn't give me much of a response she just continued with the transaction. From working in hospitality I don't blame her, she no doubt is often left to deal with issues if this is their normal standard.
We paid in full but it wasn't worth it. We had far better food in ordinary public houses in Edinburgh for less £. Take my advice and avoid here. They overall hygiene of the establishment isn't fantastic either. Toilets in particular for 8pm on a evening and they already wet and smelly they are not cleaned to a high standard or upkept during the day.
One star for foods for the scotched egg
2 stars for service is the waitress serving us was pleasant did also correct the kitchen on the fires too missing the mac and cheese.
2 stars for atmosphere as anyone having drinks looked to be enjoying themselves. Out vibe was ruined by the food...
Read moreInterior and vibe are very cool, we were glad to find this place where we could sit and eat at 11pm, however the service and food were less cool… All the meat dishes including burgers were dry, one of the sauces we ordered literally had no flavour so I can’t even remember what it was meant to be… It was 10.30pm so we asked whether this place has a bar or restaurant licence to see whether my dad and 16 years old brother could come join us, we were told they can’t come, so we told them not to come, understandable but as soon as I asked, the bouncer came up standing awkwardly 2 meters away from our table eyeing us out, then no one would bring us our drinks for ages we had to ask again and eventually we were being asked if we were leaving at 11 because one of us is 16??? Like what we were obviously all over 25 and if you are concerned you should’ve just IDed us instead of this circus of stranger with the bouncer and not giving us our drinks for 30 minutes…
Also you could tell the waitress serving our table wasn’t very experienced, didn’t know the menu etc which is totally okay, we are all human, but considering all the aforementioned strange behaviour of the staff and all the confusion slow service etc, she literally asked us if we would like to add a tip to our bill which is inappropriate in this situation and as someone who works in hospitality, I can say that you never ask your customer something like this, it is just generally rude and...
