If your in Edinburgh and taking a walk along the royal mile then please let me record an amazing place to eat. It’s called Piggs Wine Bar who serve excellent Spanish Tapas along with a fantastic selection of wines which is matched by friendly and very knowledgeable service. I would however highly recommend to book unless you’re as lucky as we were. On Tuesday evening after a long sightseeing day in Edinburgh we entered Piggs to see if they had a table for two. Luckily for us we were given a table that was for four by the window. I say lucky because once seated within the next thirty minutes at least four more groups came in but were told they are now full. So now to our evening which started by us being told that people usually go for between five or six dishes per couple. With that in mind we went for seven. The wine we chose was of the specials board and was a fantastic Cap Sentit 2021 Orange Wine from Catalunya with peach and apricot flavours. Now it was time for the food which started with the Chorizo a la Sidra. This was quickly followed by Pulpo , Pollo al Ajillo , Manchego Truffle Fries and the three dishes on the specials board. These were Mahon Bomba , Filette con salsa and Tortilla del dia. All these dishes were amazing and full of flavour. After a little break it was time for dessert. Here we had the Churros with a rich chocolate sauce and the Crema Catalana that came with a semi sweet white Rioja. This rounded off a truly fabulous evening of great food , fabulous wine and excellent service. So if your ever in Edinburgh I would highly...

The score I've given is massively influenced by the value for money I felt I got. The food is OK, but... While I understand that it's not Spain, rent is expensive and there are other overheads to pay like staff costs, I don't think there's a good reason for tiny portions of inexpensive products that require little preparation: Pimientos de Padrón, of which there were about 6 (if you count 2 little ones as 1) was £6.95, so works out at over £1 per pepper; The Special, Espárragos Trufados, was £7.95 for 4 grilled asparagus spears with a fried egg on top and a sprinkle of Manchego. Patatas Bravas were tasty and at £5.95, although the ingredients are still inexpensive, at least the quantity given is more filling. The Jamón Ibérico sharing platter was £14.95 and seemed almost reasonable if it came with the items listed on the menu (olives, pickles, chilli peppers, nuts and picos) but it only had olives.

Service: OK

Atmosphere: OK, score brought down by type of music; It's obviously subjective but if it's to be played loud (which we were warned about), I'd make it more accessible and... well, better.

Food: OK but mainly let down by the price/portion. The portions of asparagus and peppers are so measly it also makes the presentation look awful. It's a simple fix that would make a negligible difference to...

Unfortunately we didn’t have a good experience here. After our friends had raved about how good the food was here we were very excited to try Piggs. We booked online for a dining table and paid the £10 deposit. We arrived 10 minutes before our table was ready and we were sat at the bar area - assuming that this was were we would wait while until our table was ready (nothing was said to us to suggest otherwise) We ordered two drinks coming to £21.00. 10/15 minutes passed and we enquired when our table would be ready. We were told that this was our table. We came to Piggs to order tapas, which on their website advises 2-3 per person. The “table” we were sat at was completely inadequate for even 1 plate, let alone 4 or 6. To make matters worse, while we were sitting at the bar, a group of people came in as walk ins and were seated at a dining table with lots of space, while we (who booked in advance) were placed at the small bar, with no space for food and had to deal with people squeezing past us to the toilets etc. When we voiced our concerns, the gentleman behind the bar suggested he would ask the walk ins to swap with us but let’s be honest, no one was going to give up their nice table for our tiny set up at the bar. We paid for (which we regret) our £21.00...

I seen my friend had visited this place on insta and as someone who is in southern Spain a few times a year I thought I’d pop by with my son and a mate. Firstly it’s small, they have done well to make it work with space they have but if all these tables were full you’d be snug. The food: honestly the food was nice, nothing was of poor quality and the Padrón peppers were some of the nicest I’ve had. Though none were spicy at all which was unexpected. The staff: with service charges included you’ll never find the staff going above and beyond but any interaction we had was good, seem like a happy enough bunch. The menu: just enough to keep it interesting, at the prices throw in some bread, adds value. Would be nice to see some Bombas or a refreshing ensaladilla Rusa on the menu. Loses a star simply due to price and portion sizes. On the Royal Mile you pay a premium but everything, apart from the Brava, was small. 3 bought in small croquettes for £7-£8 is wild. Jamon platter is £15 for a few slices of bought in Jamon with olives, no value. No bread. No condiments. Overall it’s “fine dining” tapas, there’s scope there. I’ll recommend but I’m not sure if I’ll return.
