Chose this restaurant based on the positive reviews for my birthday meal during our holiday in Edinburgh. When we arrived the restaurant was busy and despite booking a table well in advance there we were told there would be a short wait. Ws didn't mind this but others arrived after us and were seated before us some being walk ins. The toilets weren't at all clean with 2/4 womens being out of order. After being seated we ordered our food. No one interacted with us or spoke to us other than taking our order, strangely we weren't asked about our preferences in spice levels. Our popodums arrived before we'd been given a plate for these and the accompaniments. Our main course arrived before we had finished our popodums and again we'd not been given plates for these. All very rushed. Please note the time of the receipt our table was reserved for 19.45 and we were made to wait over 20 minutes for a table. We weren't in a rush, as it was supposed to be a special evening. The food wasn't the best the chicken in 2/3 curries was tough and over cooked. The flavours weren't the best on par with a cheap takeaway. Other than the odd is the food OK no one spoke to us or asked if we wanted any further drinks, any other food or dessert. I didn't complain about the food as I genuinely dont think they'd have cared anyway. The staff interacted far more with their fellow Indian customers than us, making conversation and introducing themselves by name apparently looking at the many positive reviews.. It was a shame really that we weren't given the time of day. In total we were there less than an hour with a bill for 3 mains, 1 rice, 2 breads, popodums and 1 drink each £80. Not at all worth it for rubbish service and below average food. Actually in hindsight looking at the amount of reviews this place gets per day I'm wondering if they're genuine...it's really nowhere near special enough to warrant the...
Read moreIn the heart of Edinburgh, we discovered a gem that exceeded all expectations. What started as a potentially disappointing evening - arriving without a reservation during the busy New Year's holiday period - turned into one of our most memorable dining experiences.
The owner's hospitality was nothing short of remarkable. Despite a full restaurant, he welcomed us with genuine warmth and found a way to accommodate us. This level of personal attention and care is increasingly rare in today's dining scene, and it set the tone for an exceptional evening.
The food was a masterclass in Indian cuisine. On the owner's recommendation, we tried several dishes that showcased the kitchen's expertise. The Chicken Malai was beautifully tender and aromatic, while both the Mushroom and Paneer Tikka demonstrated perfect marination and cooking technique. The Dal Makhani was rich and creamy, cooked to that perfect consistency that only comes from slow, patient preparation. The Paneer Curry rounded out our feast with its delightful blend of spices and textures.
What truly sets Yaduvanshi apart is the combination of outstanding food and exemplary service. The owner's humble demeanor and genuine desire to ensure every guest's satisfaction elevates this restaurant above the typical dining experience. As my fellow diner accurately put it: "5 stars for the food, 7 stars for the owner" - and I couldn't agree more.
If you're looking for authentic Indian cuisine served with unparalleled hospitality in Edinburgh, Yaduvanshi should be at the top of your list. Just remember to book ahead, though based on our experience, they'll do their best to accommodate you either way.
Highlights: Exceptional hospitality, especially from the owner Outstanding Chicken Malai and Dal Makhani Perfect for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diners Remarkable service even during peak...
Read moreI rarely write reviews, but my recent experience at this restaurant left me so disappointed that I felt compelled to share. From the moment we entered, the atmosphere was cold not in terms of temperature, but in attitude. Not a single smile, no greeting, and not a hint of hospitality. Every staff member wore an expression as if they were doing us a favour by letting us in. The food itself was okay, nothing remarkable, but even a decent meal can’t shine when it’s served in such an unwelcoming environment. The lack of basic customer service turned what could have been a passable evening into a frustrating ordeal. The worst part of the experience? The dessert. We ordered gulab jamun, which turned out to be rock-hard. Not just slightly stale—literally inedible. You could probably use it as a paperweight or a weapon, but certainly not as a dessert. When we politely complained, there was no apology just a curt response that they’d “bring a fresh one in a while.” We waited for over 30 minutes, during which not a single staff member followed up or even acknowledged our presence. Finally, out of sheer frustration, I asked for the bill. To my shock, not only were the dessert charges still on the bill, but so were service charges. Service? What service? After pointing out that we never actually received the dessert, they removed that cost, but the service charge remained. Why should anyone be expected to pay extra for a level of service that was, quite frankly, nonexistent? There was no apology. No courtesy. No sense of responsibility. In summary: • Food: Passable • Service: Terrible • Hospitality: Nonexistent • Dessert: A joke (but not a funny one) • Value for Money: Definitely not
I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you’re okay with being ignored, frowned at, and charged for services you...
