Note, they ask you if you want to pay in pounds or USD at check in -- it is a trap. Pick POUNDS. Never had a hotel do this so I was confused & just picked USD. It wasn't until I told my husband afterwards that I realized what what transpired. This is not okay for a hotel to provide this choice knowing very well we would be paying more in USD, makes them appear rather shady.||I also want to note that the lady who checked us in could use some extra interpersonal /customer service skills training -- we called after check in to request extra sets of bedding for the sofa bed (the one in the closet appeared to be stuffed into a plastic bag in a disorganized fashion and appeared used/not clean, & we needed an extra set for our other half of the sofa bed which splits into 2 twins). She brought the bedding but appeared annoyed, asked to see it & made it seem like it was acceptable & that we are simply picky. Either way, when a customer simply requests extra bedding, it is not an unusual or out-of-the ordinary request.||Since she was there, I pointed out the bathroom faucet that was literally hanging off to the side (we called it "nearly headless Nick" from Harry Potter lol) to which she responded "but doesn't it still work?" as if I shouldn't be complaining since water still sprouts out of it. The door to the room was also damaged and extremely difficult to open, she saw me struggle with it as she entered. She responded that the faucet and door are things they've reported "long ago" but never fixed. But she did finally send a handyman the next day to at least stabilize the faucet (with a large visible hole on its side still, but not a big deal), however they entered our room without our knowledge despite placing do not disturb sign -- but again, not a big deal. Honestly, these are small issues we could work with with, but it was the unprofessional behavior and the way that it was handled that made it unsettling and disheartening. ||With that being said, the other employees seemed professional and friendly. ||The PROS:|- very large space in the Superior Room 326 -- it's 2 rooms, both with their own TV's|- modern decor, light & airy, lots of windows|- had a small kitchen w/ a sink|- Split bath was very useful with 2 adults + 2 teens when getting ready in the mornings (one toilet room with a small sink but oddly no place to hang a hand towel & a broken toilet paper holder, and another bathroom w/ a tub and sink)|- sofa bed actually turns into 2 twin beds, which worked out well for us with two teens -- but may not be ideal for everyone|- location at the end of Royal Mile is a pretty good one, we walked everywhere||The CONS:|- cleanliness definitely questionable |- many broken items seem to have been left neglected |- low water pressure was one of the worst i've seen in any hotel -- we were on 3rd floor|- shower water was also cold & would not warm up|-minimal toiletries -- there was a hand soap for the sink and an all-in-one "body & hair" cleansing gel that was empty upon check in|- questionable business tactics at check in w/ the currency option |- employee customer service skills training would be useful||Needless to say, we were quite disappointed, as we are typically not the complaining type & simply strive for comfort as our goal. This was the third hotel we stayed at during this trip to the UK, and the only one we had any...
Read moreA good stay but know before your go as I wish I did. I am a family of 4 with a teen who has HFA and a college student who just has sinus surgery and could not do any lifting. Fun stuff! lol Negatives. Be prepared to park and walk from a garage about 2 blocks away, which does cost to park in with a discount. The front desk gave us a map to find it. If there are no events with the metal barriers up, you can park on cobble stone in front of doors to unload. There is no Valet service as the one on website refers to laundry valet which costs $7 per piece. There are only 2 each washer and dryers for the entire hotel. When we were there the one dryer was broke. When using the bottom dryer be sure to add an extra coin past 30min and this will engage the heating element otherwise you are only air fluffing. The washing machines say detergent is already inside the machine but the cloths did not smell fresh. The washers were also in need of a good cleaning with built up dirt around the glass bubble and rubber insulation. The line for the laundry room was very backed up causing me to stay in the small room for over 2 hours to make sure all was good as people were taking their wet cloths back to their rooms then going strait to the dryer when they could. Our bathroom design caused water pooling on the floor. This with a deep tub led to being extra careful getting in and out. This will little exhaust had my bathroom in need of some repairs with paint peeling and small amounts of mold on shower door. The towel heater did not work as we tried to use it to dry our clothing. Food was good but not kid friendly as there were no pancakes, as we had in other places, kids tend to go for. These are relatively small things but having a child with autism and not knowing about the parking and laundry taking our entire evening, this being our mid two week place to wash clothing for 4, we had a few set backs that day with dinner and our overall arrival experience. Front desk was not able to give me any information on the dryer and seemed as though they did not want to be bothered with it. Guest services felt my troubles were valued at $34 despite spending over $,000. Positives - Location is perfect for shopping, visiting a few close castles and restaurants. Great for those who can not do a lot of walking and or need to rest in between outings. There are also a few small food/medical needs stores close by. This was one of a few places that had accommodations for 4. Having the amenities like fridge and such was great for our 4 day stay. Main bed was comfortable but sofa/upper twin bed had seen better days. The overall layout had some wasted space but gave separation from areas. Aside from the deeper cleaning needed in the shower, the room was very clean and felt nice to walk into. The rooms were very quiet as we never heard other guests or outside noise. Breakfast for adults and or non picky eaters was nice and all was clean. Plenty of space in rooms for a family of four. My big issue was the amount of time and money I spent vs the response I received. This and feeling the website needs to be a bit more clarifying in...
Read moreI'm leaving a review here because I see that the Manager reads the comments and I couldn't work out how to leave a review on the hotel's own website. This was my second time staying in the hotel. The first time was in 2021 or 2022 when it was still quite new. I'm sorry to say that this time it was not as good. ||Positives first: Friendly staff; when I reported that the safe wasn't working, someone came immediately to change the battery. The room was clean. The Wi-Fi was fast (maybe because we were on the ground floor). The room itself was warm, probably because it was overlooking the internal courtyard (rather than the street). ||Negatives: The room badly needed decoration. The bathroom door was very marked around the handle and there was a chunk taken out of the corner of the wall by the kitchen area where something had bashed into it. We both found the shower difficult to use - the controls were fiddly and almost impossible to move with wet hands. This meant I could not adjust the temperature and had to use a towel to turn it off. The towel rail wasn't working due to safety concerns, which wasn't an issue but would be when it gets colder. Part of the attraction of an aparthotel for us is that we can prepare some basic meals but the cooking equipment was limited e.g. only one cooking spoon, limited pans - I'm sure there was more equipment last time - but there was a ridiculously large salad bowl that I am sure has never been used. The 'fridge needn't be so big and it would be great if somehow the space could be reconfigured to give more of a worktop. Admittedly it was a studio room so quite small. No draining board or cutlery stand for washing up, so we used a tea towel to soak up water from the washed items but it was very makeshift. The room overlooked an internal courtyard so felt a bit claustrophobic but of course that can't be helped and it did mean it was quieter than one with an external view. No information in the room about services unless you scanned a QR code (which I can't do with my 'phone), for example about recycling or use of the gym or even where the garbage room was (on the 1st floor, it turned out). Worst for me, was the bedding. I found the duvet too warm and when I asked at reception if there was any alternative bedding, I was told there wasn't. Often hotel rooms have a blanket in the wardrobe and if there had been one there, I could have used the cover from the duvet as a sheet with the blanket. As it was, my sleep was very disturbed on every night since I was continually throwing off the duvet and then pulling it over again. Why hotels always seem to think that every guest needs exactly the same bedclothes is a mystery. The pillow and bedding also contained polyester which isn't conducive to good sleep. ||I would stay in the hotel again because of its location but even in September it was expensive and not as good as it should be. I hope the hotel will find these comments...
