Pizza Express (Edinburgh) — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

This is the second - and last - time we have eaten at the airport Pizza Express. The first time was breakfast which I should have known was a risk as it's not really their wheelhouse. Was pleasantly surprised to be asked how we wanted our egg yolks - soft please - only to be disappointed when they came out brick hard. Today we were having lunch at the kids' insistence but had slightly higher expectations as surely that would be more reliable. Wrong. It's online ordering only for a start which always take longer than speaking to a human. Ordered the usual dough balls and pizza fare but daringly went for the goats cheese and beetroot salad. Five minutes later was told no goats cheese so back to square one. At least they have refunded it. No pizza cutters due to airport setting so had to saw away at the pizzas with blunt knives. Decided to order coffee and desserts for the kids as we had a lot of time. Waited ages for the coffees - which did come with an apology but no milk - but no desserts appeared. Eventually asked and they hadn't put them through. When they finally arrived they came with sorbet instead of vanilla ice cream as they had run out of that too. Overall a pretty poor show for what they are charging. Staff are pleasant enough but it all seems a bit chaotic. Next time will just...

The staff were very pleasant, however I was told that I'd have to wait for a table because they were busy. Looking around, I could see that this was not the case. Once I sat at my table, I could see many empty tables. The time I waited for my order to be taken was fine. But the time it took for my pizza to arrive was extremely surprising. It came after about five minutes! How is that possible? How are they cooking the pizzas? Sadly, I suspect they are already prepared, then heated up. There is no other way that it could have arrived so fast. Strangely, my drink arrived much later? I dont think that has happened in any other restaurant I've ever been to. The pizza was far too salty, so I left half of it. In my opinion, many pizza toppings are already salty. Therefore the excessive addition of seasoning is unnecessary. In the airport you expect fast service, and that was not what we got. We sat there for 45 min after ordering and no one came and talked to us, come to find out our orders never went through because of their system and they didnt let us know or come to get our order at the table instead - but it'd be ready in 10. 20 min later they asked for our receipts and said they'll have to start cooking now and it'll be another 10 min. People that got to the restaurant long after us were getting their food. We told them to pack it to-go as we had to get to our flight, got to go containers without lids and no utensils after asking multiple times. Upon leaving because we now had to rush to our gate, received no apology from the team. While I understand that technology issues can happen, there was no effort made to come to our table and get our order when they knew their system was not working or even let us know there was a problem.
