I recently visited Bar Burrito at Edinburgh Airport (Friday night around 9:40 pm) while waiting for my flight and left feeling extremely disappointed. As a frequent traveler from Edinburgh Airport, this wasn't my first time getting food from here, but after this experience, it might very well be my last.
When I first entered, there was no one serving, and I had to wait for a staff member to emerge from the back. When he finally came out, I ordered the Nachos side (advertised on the menu at £5+), and the experience went downhill from there.
First, the portion was ridiculously small—barely any tortilla chips, which is supposed to be the main part of nachos. After adding a small amount of cheese sauce, he asked if I wanted meat, without mentioning that it would cost extra. I knew this from the board, so I requested a small portion of chorizo. He then asked if I wanted guacamole, but this time he did mention the extra charge of £1, which I agreed to.
The portion was honestly embarrassing—there was more guacamole than tortilla chips, making the entire thing unappetizing. It looked thrown together, with no care or quality. But what really annoyed me was the price.
At the till, I was charged £9.35. Expecting the total to be around £7 with the extras, I questioned why it was so high. He told me that chorizo nachos cost £8-something, which was shocking considering the tiny portion. I pointed out a sign clearly stating chorizo was an extra £1, but he just shrugged and dismissed me with a casual “airport prices.” His dismissive attitude and lack of any attempt to clarify or fix the issue was rude and unprofessional.
Overall, this was an awful experience: poor food quality, overcharging, and terrible customer service. I wasn’t going to argue over £2, but I feel compelled to write this review for management to address the issues with staff training and portion sizes. I will seriously reconsider stopping here again...
Read moreAppalling experience trying to order loaded fries. No communication from the server (who moved at a glacial pace, with not an engaged response to be seen) to explain there was an order ahead of mine, didn’t acknowledge the wait or what was happening even when fries came out, only one person serving, despite three people being in (including what appeared to be the manager, messing with the till at peak time), and when I asked what was happening, I received a rude reply and no apology fir the wait.
When the manager eventually deigned to serve me, he first asked, “have you already paid for these?” I said no and explained I was annoyed at how I’d been treated. His reply?
“There was another customer waiting…”
Me: “how was I to know that? There was no communication of the waiting time?”
The manager stared at me, uncomprehending, yet not even saying, “sorry for the wait and the confusion”. His attempt at customer service?
“Do you still want the fries?”
At this point, I was fed up and not interested in giving someone money after two people being rude to me. So, I said “no, I don’t, actually” and took my business elsewhere.
Absolutely dire. Your tram need training, I’m afraid.
EDIT: barburrito have replied below and it's not especially convincing. Staffing issues I get - that had nothing to do with how your staff behaved.
They didn't communicate effectively, were rude and unhelpful, and escalated the situation when they could have simply said, "sorry".
To read the claim that you tried to apologise (when?) and weren't given the opportunity (other than me standing right in front of the manager, saying I was unhappy) is hilarious.
I didn't exactly strop out. Your manager decided to create a conflict rather than address the...
Read moreI rarely leave reviews, but my experience at BarBurrito was so disappointing that I feel compelled to share it. This was hands down the worst customer service I’ve received in Edinburgh.
The woman serving me practically threw the food at me as I was paying—no eye contact, no thank you, just a completely dismissive attitude. When I asked politely if I could order some fries, she immediately shut me down, saying “No, they take too long, five minutes. I don’t have time for that.” I replied, “Well, I actually do have time to wait,” but she didn’t care.
From a Mexican perspective, this place is a complete letdown—not only does the food fall short of anything remotely authentic, but the hospitality (something that is such a big part of Mexican & Scottish culture) was completely missing. The experience was borderline hostile.
There were five employees behind the counter, yet somehow no one could help. They seemed flustered, impatient, and annoyed when I asked basic questions about the menu, like what kind of bread was used for the torta. It felt like customers were an inconvenience.
I genuinely wish I could get my money back. The food was disappointing, the service was even worse, and the overall vibe was just unpleasant. Please do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere. Edinburgh has so many great spots—this is...
