Shakespeare — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

Used to drink here years ago and liked it so we decided to come here again and try it for the rugby. I had phoned during the week before to ask if a table could be booked but was told it was first come first served and that they opened at 12pm, we arrived around 11.50am and the bar was already open and pretty busy so someone had given the wrong information on the phone about opening times. We got a seat and ordered drinks then had a look at the food menu. We ordered trio of fries which was fine, cant really go wrong with them and also a chicken dish, this was fairly disappointing and for almost £15 should have been alot better, chicken was really dry and the cheese on top was quite watery. After ordering more drinks I handed the barman a £20 & should have got £10+ change back but he just handed me some change and walked away, I asked for the £10 that I was due and instead of getting it from the till himself, another one of the bar staff had heard and handed me the £10, no apology for the mistake either. We spent a good few hours in the bar and watched both 6 nations games but there was no real atmosphere or any hype which you would normally get in other pubs that we have been too. Another point is that alot of tables had empty glasses and no-one seemed to be coming round to collect the empties. Toilet facilities were very poor and in desperate need of some attention. Stopped in after arriving in Edinburgh and were hungry. Husband and I shared 3 of the "Mix & Share Pub Plates": sticky chicken, battered haddock, & crispy squid. All were quite good and we wanted to order a main plate to share, but evidently they decided to close the kitchen WITHOUT WARNING before 7 pm on a busy Saturday evening, even though their Google listing says the kitchen is open until 9 pm and was "confirmed by the business a week ago." Terrible business operation!! I was enjoying the restaurant and evening until this and won't recommend it because of this terrible service.

ETA: Before we finished our drinks, I asked if the Google hours listing was incorrect and was told that they were so busy that the kitchen couldn't keep up and would reopen after a while. This was after we had paid out the tab, though. Would have been nice to have accurate information when we tried to order dinner. This has been my regular meeting point with my friends because I went to suggest them this pub but after today I ain't going back there ever again that's for sure. Ordered a hot chocolate and some mixed nuts to snack on and asked the blonde lass working behind the counter if she could bring it over to my table as my hands were full. 15 minutes later no hot chocolate in sight nor mixed nuts. My friend arrived in the meantime and I went to ask her why she hasn't brought the hot chocolate over to me as I could see it lying there behind the counter. She had the nerve of saying she didn't see me and after that her attitude changed dramatically and she turned rude.
