Frites-Lothian Road — Local services in City of Edinburgh

I used to like the sauces and the easy carry cone shaped wrapping. The 20p powdered flavours did not work, too little of them to carry through into flavour, and nor did peas, which was a sparse scattering of them. But the liquid sauce flavours were worth coming back for, + I developed a taste for with jalapenos. Then this happened on Aug 24, and they have never chosen to answer it. You wasted a portion, completely unnecessarily, as result of your servers trying to force what they thought best instead of what the customer wanted. Started with. As soon as I included jalapenos in my order, the order taker said, in that case it can be in a box instead of a cone. I can see no logical reason at all for jalapenos to require a box, With many previous good experiences of your cones. I said no it's fine to have them in a cone. Yet when they were served, they were in a box. So that after hearing my choice, they had still instead arrogantly dictatorially done what they thought best instead. It is a first line of liberty for consumers never to take treating like that. I objected, pointed out that I chosen a cone, so asked him to transfer it into a cone. The server at least took this without a big row, so I grant that. But he parked the box at the back and made up a cone from a completely new portion. When I objected to that, he 180° head-on misconstrued. He said don't worry it's a new helping - meaning he was assuming that's what I wanted. Yet I was saying the exact opposite, that there was no need to waste the original portion, he should transfer it from box to cone. He just did not take that as doable, and even as I was exhorting that I would have accepted the original portion transferred, he binned it in front of me with a shrug of fed up finality about it. That waste was unnecessary. (1) if any snobby standard for the product to look good prevented him from transferring the original portion, it was unnecessarily costly to you and wasteful. (2) the whole thing would never have happened if nobody had tried to dictate + arrogate onto the customer a different choice...

FRITES on Lothian Road. Edit Passed here and thought we would have a little extra lunch. Decided to pick the Piri Piri chicken loaded fries in the small size which was under a fiver.

"Peri Peri Chicken Poutine  Slow cooked pulled chicken loaded with cheddar and green peas, covered with our signature gravy and topped with Peri Peri sauce."

Found the pulled chicken on top just warm, prefered it to be warmer temp. The 'poutine' was a grated cheese, kinda expected it to be lumps of curd. There was plenty sauce and it had great flavors, so no complaints there. The chips were light with a thin crisp outer. Very generous portions.

Great for a quick cheap lunch on the go. I think i will try frites with just a sauce next time.

*Edit 2nd visit - after a concert at Usher Hall I decided to pop by for a late night snack. Having stood in the line for 10mins. Once I got into the premises, the one and only server announced to the ppl he was serving that he only had enough chips for two orders and that he was closing in 5mins. He said it to the ppl that he had served already. It wasn't clear, I had to ask him did he mean he wouldn't be able to serve me. He said yes as he closes at 11. He should really told the customers that he couldn't serve instead of me second guessing. So...

The fries are not bad at all and above average when compared to a chippy, but then the bar is quite low in most cases. The website claims they do double fry but it surely dont seem to do the magic you get in Belgium. I am guessing temperature and time management may be the reason to that. But what really disappointed me are the sauces. Tried three different one in two visits and the quality is really bad. If you serve Belgian fries you need having quality Mayo at the least. They would be better off with mainstream Hellmans than this thing they call "gourmet mayo" which is I am sorry, just rank. The cherry on the cake is that although staff was trying to do their best, they were pretty much lost and I am under the impression my attendant simply could not understand what I was saying. All and all this is a major disappointment and as a Belgian descendent I cringe to the fact that this is how our fries are being presented to the people in...
