Booked an evening meal for 7 people to celebrate my wife's birthday. Two people ( total should have been 9) were unable to attend and on arrival we told the waitress who 'greeted us' the waitress made it very obvious that she was not happy at the two no shows and complained about it with much 'huffing and puffing' as she removed the two extra table places. That pretty much set the scene/atmosphere for the whole evening. The food was average for a Thai restaurant in Edinburgh, not bad but not great either. The service however was pretty poor. There were 2 waitresses working that night and our table must have had a 'cloak of invisibility' as we were pretty much ignored the whole evening and I had to get up from my table frequently, and go to the desk to order drinks / ask for the table to be cleared etc. I didn't make a fuss because it was my wife's birthday and I didn't want the event to be dampened by me complaining but I did feel upset for my wife as she is Thai also and the restaurant was her choice. The fact she was Thai too did not elicit any special service or indeed, any service at all. Suffice to say that was our first visit to the Spirit of Thai Restaurant and now we have 7 people who wouldn't return. Not a...
Read moreVery disappointing, Rude and uncooperative staff. Spirit of thai is my regular place to go including taking clients and family out because i love it. I have been a customer for years. I had family (old age parents and young kid) visiting from Dubai and wanted to treat them to this restaurant as the food is great. We aimed for the lunch menu which is great selection and good price. I checked on the phone before going and notified of my lateness. We were told to arrive by 4.30pm to avail their lunch menu. We arrived at 4.30 but the lady at the restaurant said it was 4.32pm and refused to let us avail the lunch menu. I requested humbly as had family visiting and everyone was looking forward to the thai meal but she refused. Being a regular customer for years i would have expected to give some margin for 2 min delay. It was very disappointing more so because of the attitude of the staff which was very rigid and unwelcoming. We were so put off that we did not want to go for the a la carte either. The restaurant was empty and they lost out on business because of a 2 min delay and rude staff. And will no doubt lose my regular visits with...
Read moreTraveling a lot this year, and having fun trying my favorite cultural cuisines in different countries. Spirit of Thai here in Edinburgh, Scotland wins the competition. The dishes (tom kum gai, gaeng kiew warn nuer, meang kum, goong phad medmamuang) blew our minds. Now, I'm the type of smart a$$ who has eaten enough Thai food I can ask for specific dishes by name and protien type, and most of the time people are happy to whip something up. Spirit of Thai was no exception. Happy for my enthusiasm. And we were not the only foreigners in there singing their praises. Another couple, students from America I believe, also said it was the best Thai they had ever had. Definitely going to be coming back a lot while here. Very good food. Very fresh. The Thai tea which is not on the menu was amazing. Not overly sweet, full of...
