The Bothy Murrayfield — Restaurant in City of Edinburgh

The only reason I’m giving this restaurant any stars at all is their lovely wait staff. Everything else was awful. As a starter, my partner had prawn/crayfish cocktail and I had hummus and flatbread. His prawns were bland, clearly cheap and frozen, the “Bloody Mary sauce” was simply Thousand Island dressing and my hummus was served with what appeared to be cold, stale ciabatta. Our cocktails, which were below average, took forever getting to us, which I thought was the result of the poor staff being run off their feet. However, I suspect it was due to the enormously disinterested barman who moped around behind the bar with one AirPod in. He genuinely looked like he hated his job. Our mains, I had a beef burger and my partner had steak was again, well below average. The burger was fine but incredibly expensive for what it was. My partners steak was expensive, cooked poorly and tasted like it had been defrosted too quickly. Certainly no part of our meal tasted like it had been prepared by a chef. A short order cook, maybe. And the music. So loud we couldn’t actually hear each other speak. Even the waitress had to keep asking us to repeat ourselves. All in all, a terribly costly, bland meal. Save your money and...

Social distancing is good but that's the only positive. My group of 4 were greeted and seated straight away and told a waiter would be over in a couple minutes as during covid it's table service only. 40 full minutes later and no-one had approached us so we signalled the lady who greeted us and asked if we could order. She told us she can't take orders but would get a waiter across. Even from then it took 8 minutes to come across to take our extremely simple order of 2 pints, a glass of prosecco and a G&T which was about £27 (pricy). We finished these and sat with empty glasses desperately trying to make eye contact with the staff for another 40 minutes until we finally got ones attention and they said they would be across in a second after delivering the drinks they were carrying. 20 minutes later he was walking over to us and the table of two girls next to us hollered him and he served them first instead of us and didn't return to us for 15 minutes. Fed up we left. I will never return. For clarification to other potential patrons the tables were only at 70% capacity and there were many staff standing around and plenty of staff behind the bar this was not a staff level issue it was a horrible...

We recently had the pleasure of dining at The Bothy, and it was truly an exceptional experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was inviting, the ambiance cozy, and the attention to detail in both the decor and service was impeccable.

A special mention must go to Boyana, our server, who made our evening even more delightful. She was incredibly friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. Whether it was recommending dishes or simply her warm demeanor, Boyana truly elevated the dining experience. Her professionalism and genuine care made us feel welcomed and valued as guests.

As for the food, it was nothing short of spectacular. Every dish was beautifully presented, bursting with flavor, and perfectly cooked. The desserts were particularly memorable, showcasing both creativity and fresh ingredients.

In conclusion, The Bothy exceeded all of our expectations. If you're looking for a place with outstanding food and impeccable service, this is the spot. And if you're lucky enough to have Boyana as your server, you're in for an even more exceptional evening. Highly...
