This is THE BEST fish & chips place in Edinburgh, period.
The moment we walk in, we're greeted by the super friendly staff, as if we're visiting long-time family friends.
Everything on the menu is freshly cooked to order, filling the air with tempting aroma.
The dressed haddock supper is simply to-die-for. The batter is golden, light, crispy and aromatic, perfectly contrasting the fresh, succulent and sweet haddock. The sweet girl over the counter would recommend sprinkling lemon juice over the fish - such a simple refreshing idea to bring the fish to the next level! The thick-cut chips are indulgently crispy outside and moist and fluffy inside. They are not at all greasy and remain crispy even when they're cold!
There are so many kebabs to choose from, too - the highlighted tender organic chicken and the juicy döner are both packed with flavours and go really well with the fresh salad. Lovely Hamid may also throw in some extra tasters for you to try - bless him! ;-)
Hamid's haggis pizza is our latest favourite. It has a light, fluffy and slightly crispy base, full of the sweetness of the dough, and a divine topping of rich herby tomato sauce, generous mozzarella cheese and spicy haggis slices - we felt we were teleported from Edinburgh to Naples!
Fresh and delicious comfort food at reasonable price served by lovingly people. We know we love this little gem and will be regulars, and hope you will, too. Oh, it's a cash-only place, but there's a cash...
Read moreHave been a regular Georgie fish customer. Recently it seems they had a change of management and so things seem to be going downhill. I always order fish and chips from them but this time I just wanted to have a small bite so ordered quarter pounder burger. They said they won't take payments below 5 pounds via card and suggested I pay for chips too that I did not want. I did however pay for the chips as well to make it 5 pounds out of the respect for the staff since I did not want them to waste the burger. However I know one thing, they have lost now two regular customers after this. Me and my partner who loved them. You pay a small visa fee for every transaction, I do get it, but setting a lower limit and losing a customer is not worth it and I would not be doing a business like...
Read moreConsistently the best fish and chips in the area. The fish is cooked to order and always crisp with excellent batter and fresh haddock used. The chips are proper chip shop chips, thick and stodgy with a proper potato taste. Even if you don't like this the other stuff on the menu all seems great quality for an awesome price. The pizzas are fantastic, superb dough and fresh ingredients, try the one with garlic and fresh tomatoes as a side to your fish and chips, only a fiver. Onion rings are real bits of onion done in their chip shop batter and you can certainly tell. All in all, consistently the go to chip shop in south west Edinburgh. Tasty...
