Had great potential (cute spot, reasonably priced drinks) but an incredibly rude man came around and started yelling at all the guests (lots of tables still seated) around 11pm (closing is midnight). Of course completely understandable that a bar might close earlier if it isn’t busy, but this man was condescending and outright confrontational.

Another group politely asked what time the bar would close (again - website explicitly says open to midnight every day, so this is an hour early) when this man first came around grabbing drinks from tables while patronisingly declaring “it’s home time”, he replied by aggressively pointing at an empty table and sarcastically asking “what do you think?”. This is out of nowhere and he doesn’t actually answer the question as to whether the bar is closing or at what time it’s closing. He does leave the full drinks for guests to finish so we interpreted this as his version of “final call.”

When he came around again and told all the people “it’s home time, now get out”, we asked him for his name. He replied by stating it’s none of our business.

We raised this to the management who were understanding and seemed aware of the issue with this employee.

Would suggest avoiding this bar while he is working.

Again - there would have been no issue whatsoever if he simply said “apologies, it’s quiet so we’d like to close the bar now”, it was the tone and aggression that made his behaviour...

I would give zero stars but Google won’t allow you to. I’m not exaggerating when I say this was by far the worst restaurant experience I’ve had in my entire life. I was here on Friday 21st July for my friends stag do, ordered a beef burger at the bar to go to table 35. Time goes by and my friends are all eating and my beef burger is nowhere to be seen. There are however two chicken burgers that seem to have been brought to the wrong table (31) as no one ordered them. Somethings obviously gone wrong, no problem mistakes happen. I speak to the server first and he basically calls me a liar and claims it’s my problem as someone else has clearly eaten my burger. That’s clearly not the case as we’re all in close quarters I can see no one else has got a beef burger. I then go to the bar to speak to the manager/owner. Explain the situation. Same again he refuses to believe me. I’m flabbergasted at how poor the service is. I’m sure this tactic will work on some people, but I’m not giving in. After a few minutes of arguing back and forth he finally agrees to rectify the situation. Honestly though I wish I never bothered as it was such a hassle and the burger itself was so greasy and basically blue. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The owner/manager and the staff need a lesson in manners and would need to go back to basics with their customer service skills. The customer is always wrong in their...

I honestly don't think I can sing the praises of this place enough, but darn it if I'm not going to try. Some friends, my partner and I were up in Edinburgh for a few days before - and on the way to - the BrewDog AGM in Aberdeen. The entire extended weekend was a pilgrimage to all things craft beer, and when we realised that a reportedly "exceptional" craft beer place was a short walk from where we were staying... well, we were off. The venue itself is not too brightly lit, with a bit of a quirky vibe about it. There's lot of natural look tables, we were sat on what looked like an old church pew at one point, random beer-themed art adorned the walls... It was cool. Beer-wise there was a cracking range of brews on tap as well as bottled in the fridge, but if I'm honest one of the main draws was their own range. Oh yes, The Hanging Bat Beer Cafe sells the - in my experience - excellent produce of The Hanging Bat Brew Co. I tried two of their sours which were on at the time: "Death by Blackberries", and a no-hops, no-fruit beer "Funk Wizard". I gave them a 5 and a 4, out of 5, respectively on a popular app for those with a problem... remembering their favourites. ;) All in all, I had a great time at the Hanging Bat both nights we went in. It's a great craft beer bar, and I'd recommend you go...

Stopped by The Hanging Bat for a pre-dinner drink on a recent trip to Edinburgh. It’s a bar with real character and not just the painted wall murals, but in the atmosphere too. They weren’t doing food when we visited and I think they had a sign saying the kitchen would be closed for a while. They had a wide range of very different beers on offer, especially if you’re into trying some of the wackier end of the spectrum like sours, fruity beers and the currently over trendy IPAs. They were switching kegs of one flavour out for another one and updating the beers on the board while we were there. It was cool to see. We had a few dietary requirements in the group, and the barmen were happy to modify some of the cocktails to suit, which was nice. I went for an espresso martini and I enjoyed it. We sat, talked, and enjoyed the laid-back vibe. It was a great spot to kick off the night.

Had lunch here midweek & was very quiet. On the main Lothian Road. Stands out from outside but doesn't look like like a pub or bar. Quite large inside spread over a number of different levels & more "pub like". Wasn't very obvious what choices of beer they had but whilst I was looking round spotted bottles of Tegenseer in the fridge which I like so went for one of those. There are maps on the walls showing where their beer comes from but a simple menu would have been fine. I ordered a hotdog will chilli, mustard etc & barman seemed to take an age messing with a tablet before the order was processed. Disappointingly the bottle of beer wasn't properly chilled. Food was very nice & made for very substantial lunch. Not bowled over with this first visit maybe just bad timing & am willing to try again when next in Edinburgh.

I travel and eat out a lot ( for work and pleasure). Some times I pick a hit and other times it's a miss. This cool spot was almost perfect. I say almost, mostly because of there are a couple tables crammed in that if I could I wouldn't chose to sit at. This is because they're either in the dark corner by the open door and kitchen or at front where everyone is passing you by or hovering next to you waiting. But tables on the upper deck or lower are great. (We were in dark, near bunch of DIY bits and cold breeze from the open back door area. But the music, the staff, endless beer choice and food is epic. And the cool Street Art style decor on point to score a 95% so note to self (book a table in advance next time and say where you want to sit) Oh and you must try the fried pickles!
