We had a very enjoyable hearty early dinner on our first day in Edinburgh. The place looks very nice, with an extremely cozy atmosphere. Perfect for our first few hours in a gothic looking city on a winter dark day! Personnel is very kind and service fast. We got our starter within minutes. We just waited maybe a few minutes too long to get our beer but after that everything arrived promptly. I found the soup to be ok, with not much fish. The fish was tasty but the soup instead felt bland. It came with bread that felt a bit too limp and the butter was just too cold to be spread. Unfortunately I didn't particularly appreciate the beer, but that's probably just me. The pie instead was superb. Rich and hearty, full of flavor. Generous portion. The gravy also extremely good and a great addition to the accompanying carrots. I tried the beef pie of my partner and didn't particularly like it, while she found it very satisfying instead. We both loved the menu and struggled to choose from so many options that caught our attention. An interesting detail about the menu: calories are called out for each and every dish. I don't think I had ever seen that for such a traditional menu!! Music felt a bit in contrast with the general atmosphere: a bit too upbeat and modern for a place looking so traditional.

Located on the Royal Mile, the Mitre Bar offers great pub food with a lively atmosphere and a great story. Originally built as a tenement in 1615 and owned by the Bishop of St. Andrews, it burned down in 1814 and was replaced by The Mitre. Folklore has it that the bishop’s throne is buried somewhere under the bar and that he still walks the establishment. The bar is fun and energetic with great service, and a good selection of beers and ciders. Through the bar, is the restaurant which is family friendly with children allowed until 9pm. They serve classic and delicious Scottish fare and have a good selection of dishes to choose from including vegan and vegetarian options. We really enjoyed the sausage and mash, fish and chips and haggis, neeps and tatties, and the cranachan and sticky toffee pudding were absolutely delicious! I even returned one night after the restaurant was closed craving the sticky toffee pudding I had the day before, and they were gracious enough to serve me one. Highly recommend it!

We arrived to the bar at 6:30pm to ask for a table for 2 people, the waiter told us they were full at the moment and that we may have to wait for and hour. Then I asked for the possibility of making a reservation for 8:30pm, the waiter told us that he couldn't do that for us (not possible to guarantee a free table at that hour), so we left the place. Then I tried to make a reservation through your web for the next day (sept 12th), first confirmed and later cancelled by you (because of "unexpected circumstances"). 2 days later you sent me a survey about my experience at your bar (supose it's automated but even though...), having canceled actively and purposely (email signed by Vivian) the reservation which may generate this enquiry. What can I say... You could do better.

!!!! STAY AWAY. GROSS FOOD AND RUDE STAFF!!!!!! Food is so DISGUSTING. I had to send it back because I didn't want to eat it after having a taste. Burnt bread. Cold stew.. flavorless, literally so so flavorless.. the side vegetables are seasoned with water. I didn't bother the waitress with my complaints since she was so nice, she gave me a chocolate brownie on the house (gesture was appreciated but, the brownie was gross and the ice cream tasted like frozen 2% milk). I was fine with the service up until the red head manager came to our table with the bill saying she couldn't take off the dish I ordered. I agreed to pay for my husband dish and our drinks. She DEMANDED I pay for the food I didn't eat. She threw in the trash in front of md and told me I was wasteful.. I had to argue that I didn't like the food nor did I eat it so I shouldn't have to pay for it and she told me it's not the company's fault or her fault I didn't like it. I told her it sort of is because it didn't taste well. She proceeded to be rude and prejudice and said "you never even had this before." That shocked me to here from a manager of an established, I feel like her position should be taken away from her. She got extremely rude with me and argue and yelled at me at the end of the night.. other tables were staring at us. Super embarrassing and dramatic. !!!! STAY AWAY. GROSS FOOD AND...

We come here every year during the Edinburgh Festival for lunch and drinks, we always have a wonderful time. On this occasion, however, we were admitted into the bar, took a seat and placed and order for food and drinks via the app, paid £60 plus tip. We did not see the 'Please wait to be seated sign' when taking a table and the lady who brought our drinks admitted the sign was tucked away and difficult to see. The first lady who approached our table to confirm if we'd made a reservation was abrupt, rude and very unwelcoming. Chastising us for taking a seat without adhering to the sign. It was a genuine mistake, admittedly as the sign was obscured. We witnessed her complaining to her colleague about us, she came back eventually to advise us "You can stay" then left. She came back with cutlery and placed it on the table without a word. Admittedly we were wrong to have taken a seat after being admitted into the bar there is no reason to treat a customer in such a rude manner. We apologised and were left waiting to see if we were to be refunded and asked to leave but the manner in which she conducted herself towards a customer was inexcusable and unreasonable, despite the honest mistake. The lady did return in a more calmer tone and frequently checked everything was okay. The food, however, was delicious and the...
