As a Girl who enjoys life & likes to try out new things, it was the turn of Bills Colchester. My first ever experience & most definitely NOT my last. I was actually being treated by my sons for Mother's Day 2023 & they asked me to pick & book the restaurant. I choose Bills. I'm so glad I did...... We showed up for our booking 10 mins early & we were seated straight away by a lovely waitress. After being given menus & asking for our drinks our waitress left us to peruse the menu. We were all talking & catching up (I have 4 sons who live in different parts & 3 of them came for today, the 4th lives in Dorset so was unable to make it sadly) as we don't get to see each other in person a lot these days. After giving us extra time to choose our meals due to catching up we enjoyed our drinks whilst we waited on the starters. I choose King Prawns with a dip, Bills Burger & Fries & some unknown exotic fruity dessert. (See pictures) I have to say each & every course was absolutely delicious! We all enjoyed our food & there was not one complaint at all. Bills is an experience I urge you to try. It is a lovely comfortable place with tables being placed so you're not on top of each other, so it felt more intimate like you're the only ones there enjoying yourselves as you cannot hear anyone else's conversations. The staff were very lovely & answered any queries regarding the food. The drinks were lovely especially the cocktails as I had like 4 different ones Mmmmmm. The food was as I said above totally delicious & I'm looking forward to going back again very soon. We all had a wonderful time & we all left happily satisfied with full bellies & I felt very much appreciated & loved by my sons for coming together to do this for me. I highly recommend you do go yourselves! Have a wonderful time just like we did. Love always from a girl who loves her sons above anything else! Justine from Style Out Your Home xXx

We stopped at Bill's for breakfast. Ordered a flat white with oatmilk. Yes, I know that this kind of place is not the best for coffee, but I wasn't ready to be presented with a disgusting watery coffee that looked like black coffee with some miserable layer of Macro (rather than micro) foam on top. When I called the waiter and I claimed that that wasn't a flat white, she had the audacity to say it was, and said that the fault is in the oat milk. Well, if you offer a product that is not doable with your oat milk, at least warn the customer of the issues. I have been served perfectly fine oat milk flat whites, so that's not an excuse. She asked me if I wanted something else while she seemed to be annoyed because a customer dared to not to like some poor quality coffee. She treated me like if I didn't know what I ordered, trying to explain to me what a flat white is. I ordered another coffee (cappuccino) , with regular milk, just to be on the safe side. It was all right, but they were rude enough to charge me for both coffees when we ordered the bill. We didn't want to argue with people that can't take criticism so we payed and left. I would have left 1 star only but the food was decent. I will gladly not come back. Photo of the offending coffee attached

I usually love coming to the Bills chain of restaurants, but today wasn’t great. I ordered the Eggs avocado florentine which said it came with spinach. And it genuinely came with two leaves 😂! I embarrassingly asked the waiter if I could get some more for the side, expecting some florentine spinach and was bought a bowl of fresh spinach. The staff genuinely looked at me like I was stupid which gave me the full on giggles as I found it hilarious 2 pieces of spinach warranted it being on the description! Just for reference- Florentine usually is the use of braised spinach with butter, garlic and olive oil All of the other food was lovely but not worth the price, next time we will definitely go Romano Lounge round the corner! Would recommend as it’s more cost effective, similar atmosphere and food is great (and plenty of spinach hahaha!)

Went yesterday 14th, with my 2 daughters 1 of whom is in wheelchair very accomadting manger was she was lovely, waitress came to take our food orders b4 drinks order, as a foh supervisor i sit guests and ask their drink orders and give menus usually wait till after serving drinks b4 food orders so as not to rush em, anyway,,, my disabled child can only eat soft foods asked if chef make a small omlete for her waitress whom was lovely asked and he couldnt yet oddly could do scrambled eggs, so got that for her and side of mac cheese me n other adult daughter order steak meals with side mushrooms n peppersauce coke and 1 dbl rum n coke, dbl vodka lemonade aperol spritz , beef gin lemonsde , icecream total shockinly £107.94 to expensive inc £12.59 service charge i only didnt refuse cos waitress was lovely and attentive, steak was tough so prob frozen and defrosted ,with garlic butter on top which should be to side guest may not like garlic or butter, ive worked as chef to on the lines & wld put in a petri on side. pepper sauce to much pepper in it ruined sauce flavour, shame only do fries and not chips as steak usually served with steak chips, mushrooms were overcooked and dry & shrivalled, scrambled egg was good and mac cheese. The young man whom delivered food to table was lovel, he didnt say to us where shall i put yr daughters plate, like some places do when see her in wheelchair with cp, he actually served and treated her like she should be and his been raised great whatever his name was thankyou so much, for seeing her and not the disabilty. Do think meals were pricy 98 quid for 2 sides and 2 mains icecream scoop n 5 drinks . Vodka n gin all could taste was lemonade. Food 3/5.. frozen steak tough

Waitress 4/5 nds to order n serve drinks when guests sit & allow guests to settle n browse menu over drinks b4 asking for food orders so as not rush them, but checkback done great and polite.

Waiter 5/5 for seeing my daughter not the cp

Servers coukd try and upsell bottles wine when people order recomend em depending on food orders .and also desserts instead leaving guests to ask gor dessert menus choose a certain dessert on menu and say its chef special push it, upsales good 4 buisness and good for servers.

Had an enjoyable relaxed lunch here, staff were very friendly and attentive even though it was quite busy. Food here is varied in style from the usual steak and burger selections to some more unusual options. Carnivores, vegetarians and vegans are catered for in equal measure as well as those with allergies. We had a selection of starters to get things going, calamari, spicy chicken skewers and mini Cumberland sausages. We both opted for steak and chips with a selection of vegetables (and in my case a side order of Mac n cheese, arrived scoldingly hot, though nice I would have preferred it to have been made with stronger flavoured cheeses, say a mature cheddar and/or a blue cheese.) The meat quality here is very good. Dessert followed in due course. The decor is sympathetic to the obvious history of the building, but with an industrial twist, in so far as the wiring for the lighting, fire alarms etc is not hidden a way but mounted on industrial racking on the ceilings, the lighting is an eclectic mixture of 1930s and 40s industrial to 1950s domestic to modern up lighters. This is a style have found in all the bills restaurants we have visited. I suspect someone in this company spends a lot of time trawling around, reclamation yards, scrap merchants and bric a brac shops hunting down this lighting. All in all well...
