This place is full of character a 17th century half timbered french style building proudly displaying the original musket shots from the era. But more importantly the food doesn’t let the surroundings down. Offering European food with a modern English twist.

Pan Fried Scallops with Pea Purée and Black Pudding Bon Bons. .A generous portion of scallops cooked to perfection sweet and tasty, but I have to say the idea of the black pudding bon bons was genius little balls of rich flavours balanced the pea purée and scallops beautifully.

Pan Fried Sea Trout Fillet, Curried Mussel Velouté with New Potatoes and Samphire. Great looking fish, trout was full of smooth flavour and the curried mussels were awesome the sauce was to die for and with the sharp salty taste of the samphire was a great match.

Apple and Cinnamon Crumble Tart with Vanilla Ice Cream. What can I say does what it says on the tin, loved the crispy pastry shell and the crumble was sweet and well, crumbly, to be honest and this is my fault I was expecting it to be warm like a crumble rather than cold, but it is a crumble tart so i guess a tart is cold. But a great way to end the meal. . Well that and the cracking espresso martini that replaced your standard filter coffee. . Whilst the food was great I have to also comment on the excellent staff for making us feel so welcome in the current times, it’s hard to be a great host with so many rules but they pulled it off brilliantly. We will...

Dear THE OLD SIEGE HOUSE Management,

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the experience I had at your restaurant recently. I visited your establishment on [date] and ordered the fish plate from the menu. Unfortunately, I was appalled to find that the fish on my plate had a strong unpleasant odor, indicating that it was not fresh.

The smell coming from the fish was so off-putting that I could not bring myself to take more than a few bites. This ruined my entire dining experience and left me feeling disgusted and unsatisfied. As a customer, I expect fresh and quality ingredients when dining out, especially when it comes to seafood.

The lack of attention to the quality of the food served at your restaurant is unacceptable, and it has certainly made me reconsider ever returning to dine at your establishment. I had heard positive reviews about your restaurant before, but this experience has completely tarnished my perception.

I hope that you take this feedback seriously and take the necessary steps to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. As a customer who values good food and service, I must say that I am deeply disappointed and will not be recommending your restaurant to others based on...

Beautiful setting in this ancient building. Very friendly knowledgeable, polite staff ; only 2 waiting on tables so I'm unsure if that was the reason it was quite delayed in serving each course on the 15th February. (The was a large family eating there too , so that didn't help I'm sure but at least it says they can cater for larger groups.).

Our meals were absolutely delicious! Great choice for vegetarians ; unusual options from the run of the mill choices I normally am offered. My husband had seafood starter & pork for main which he said was very very good. I think he would have liked a little more ! But really ,after a short while we were full up so don't be fooled & let it go down is my advice ! Fantastic selection of gins. Overall competitively priced meal. I only dropped a star because we had no parking spaces & it was heavily raining that day and I had had my hair done ! Flimsy reason perhaps but with the parking issue & a 25 minute wait from Starter to main meal I have been a bit mean & knocked off a star for this occasion. But I genuinely look forward to coming again & highly recommend The Old Siege House...

Overpriced forgettable food. We had Christmas lunch at the Old Siege House. Let me start with what I liked. The pros: They had an apple crumble with amaretto that was quite nice. The building is lovely. I struggle with overeating at Christmas. This lunch was quite helpful as it was ok but wasn't moreish. The cons: this place was freezing when we arrived and did not feel comfortable when we left. The elderly lady beside us was next to the fire that they lit after serving the starters, but she was still so cold she wore her coat throughout the meal. I had contacted the restaurant to cancel the reservation a month in advance and they would not refund the deposit (£105), so we went ahead with the Christmas lunch. The third person for the lunch could not join, and I already anticipated we'd have to pay for their lunch, but they added insult to injury by insisting on delivering the extra courses to the table. Then, despite paying for three meals that included prosecco they charged for the third glass. I will not revisit their establishment.

Really excellent food. Perfectly-cooked scallops with a lovely black pudding accompaniment, beautifully presented on a bed of salad, with just the right amount of dressing. Halibut was good but slightly less excellent, as it was just very slightly over-cooked. But only fractionally, and that's being picky. I had a delicious rump of lamb in a lovely sauce that was both fresh and minty, but also deeply unctuous and satisfying. I mean, really good. My daughter had chicken nuggets, which were delicious - light and tender and fluffy, moist and just lovely. That level of attention to detail for even the kids' menu speaks volumes of the standard of the kitchen. The restaurant is set in an interesting building with plenty of history. Service was friendly and good. One ale on tap - I forget the name, but it was well-kept and interesting with hints of apricots, and very tasty. Decent wine list. Reasonably priced for the standard of the cooking and food - felt we'd had decent value for a lovely meal. Will definitely return.
