I have driven past the Yak & Yeti a number of times and presumed it was inaccessible due to age and front of building. I was so pleased to be proven wrong as the side access is ramped with level access dining. It also has an accessible toilet of reasonable size. We were greeted with friendly helpful staff who went out of their way to make sure we were looked after. The menu was comprehensive but not so many options that it makes it complicated. Most allergens were marked on menu but the friendly staff were approachable should you have a query. The menu is Nepalese with some well known indian dishes. The food was fantastic and generous portions. We certainly couldn't manage dessert! We are booked to go back with friends and can't wait. It is a refreshing change to find a decent curry house that is accessible. They didn't make a fuss about the wheelchair and we all felt really comfortable.

I had the best experience at the new and upgraded Yak & Yeti restaurant on the high street - a true gem in Colchester town centre. I came here with a few friends and everything was impressive - from the ambience to the staff to the food, there was nothing I could fault. The restaurant is very will lit, warm and comfortable. The new beer Khumbu Ice was especially crisp and fresh from the draught and I could see this going down a treat across the restaurant. The food was so flavoursome and tender - my particular favourites were the Lasooni Piro Lamb and Tandoori Broccoli! And what was great to see was the variety of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. And finally all the items were served with a smile with the waiters being especially friendly and attentive. I cannot wait to return! Thank you Yak & Yeti for the great all round experience!

Unlike other Indian restaurants in town. It’s clean and doesn’t smell 😅. Food experience and achaar was brilliant . Had the veggie samples and trio chicken for starters then Nepali veggie tali as main dish. It came with a gulab dessert which was perfect! Not dipper in sweet syrup and not heavy. Just perfectly light and sweet. Their achaar collection is selections.waiter knew the menu and was of great help to order. Food was served quick and hot.

Amazing staff and amazing food, as always.

Unfortunately, I think, although the move onto the High Street is better for business, the restaurant itself is not as nice as the old one.

The staff were completely run off their feet, mainly because of Just Eat and Deliveroo orders and drivers constantly walking in and out of the restaurant shouting at staff to hurry up which really ruins the vibe when you're trying to have a nice meal.

We reserved a table, but it got given away even though we turned up early. They did apologise and gave us another table, but if it had been busier, I'm not sure what their solution would have been.

People were turning up and asking for a table. They would be seated but then left for about 25 minutes or so before anyone came to take drink orders. Two couples actually walked out.

We had our drinks order taken and then had to wait about half an hour for our food order to be taken. Didn't really bother us because we had nowhere to be.

The food was absolutely beautiful and I can't fault it. And the waiters and waitresses were all really sweet and trying their best with what they had.

I think the owner needs to focus more on stopping the delivery drivers from constantly barging through the restaurant, letting cold air in, knocking on the windows, shouting through the restaurant at staff and having an extra member of staff to sort deliveries out because it really impacts the whole place. Making sure the staff are not overworked and getting regular breaks is a must also because I didn't see one of them stop for breath in the whole 3 hours...

Now as you all should know by now, this girl loves her food!!

So I wanted to try something different & that I had not had before.

So Yak & Yeti it was your turn......

I ordered online despite the restaurant being like a 5 min drive away, (feeling lazy & didn't want to go get dressed up etc) so I chose my starter & mains.

The food was delivered within 30 minutes, it was still piping hot, bonus!!

Containers they used were very good so no spillage at all.

Popadoms were crispy & went nicely with the dips.

As for the food, not only did it look delicious it smelt delicious as well.

Then I tried it.......

And O to the M to the G, it was spicy, too spicy in fact for me to continue to eat the food. My belly was grumbling & the food as I said looked delicious so I tried another forkful from the plate & yep, still too spicy.

Now I did not order anything spicy at all, but it is a Nepalese restaurant & they use spices of many kinds I guess.

But whatever they do use it is way too spicy for me, if I tried to continue I'd be in agony later on, as my stomach just doesn't do spicy foods.

As a girl who loves her food, I'm not going to mark this restaurant down just because I can't tolerate spicy foods. In future I will notify the restaurant to not add spice above very mild to future orders.

This restaurant has a very good high review online, so I do encourage you to try it out for yourselves, just bear in mind the food can be spicy.

Otherwise hope you have a wonderful day!!

Love as always Justine xXx...

I have been visiting this place for over two years now! One of the main issue is that the quality of the food is very inconsistent. We order almost the same dishes every time we go there as my daughters and wife love those.

We always give feedback to the Chef and the manager ( positive or not).

Our last visit was a disaster. Couple of dishes were clearly not fresh (I am being generous here as you could tell it just from the smell). So I informed the Manager. To my surprise, instead of even trying to listen to me and look at/smell the food, he instantly got defensive saying he has sold 50 portions of the same dish online with no complains. After 5 minutes of my persistent request to at least look at the food, he reluctantly came to our table and picked it up to take it to the chef.

After getting no further feedback for 10 minutes, I approached him only to be told that the chef is very busy and he is not listening. Again along with the same story of selling 50 portions online, he added that finding a chef is very difficult and the chef is his partner too.

So he finally prepared the bill, saying that he has completely discounted the dish against my taste-card discount. I was extremely shocked at this gesture as he was behaving as he was doing huge favour to us by discounting the food that was stale and we did not even touch it.

In this episode of 20-25 minutes, he neither showed any empathy or said sorry for spoiling our dinner time.

I would not recommend this place to anyone based on this...
