Missed opportunities here ⦠I ordered lunch which was pleasant enough. On ordering, I paid up front, which is fine, however the terminal prompted me to offer a tip upfront which is completely back to front, so I politely declined. Surely a tip should be given for the service based on the customers experience. As I collected the menus, and our drinks no really service was given apart from delivery two plates of food to the table which is hardly service. On finishing the food which was pleasant enough we asked politely to have our plates cleared by the waiter (using the terminology loosely). As he was passing and had an empty tray after bringing food to an adjacent table, he said Iāll get someone else to collect it. Despite returning to our table a few times he still didnāt collect the plates.Obviously he thought it beneath him, eventually it was collected by āhimā . On finishing our lunch a group of people were looking for a table for four, so I mentioned that we about to go and offered the table to them. The waiter then said the table was reserved, which it wasnāt as we were still sitting there he then moved a reserved sign on to the table for another table in front of us. I politely mentioned that we had offered the table to waiting group, and as we hadnāt left how could it be reserved. By his lack of understanding he was either having a bad day or lacked any service skills, I think the latter was the case ā¦anyway moving on! The outside area has the potential to be really lovely ⦠unfortunately it was tired and the tables were not wiped once between service and the are chairs grubby, it would take a little effort to elevate the outside area to make a place to return too⦠unfortunately we wonāt. be coming back. In summary good food, shocking service from one individual, I guess we all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stopped here after driving 5 odd hours from East Sussex for a well deserved break and some food.
I have to say, I was underwhelmed.
My friend and I ordered the Tetbury Breakfast which consisted of a tiny remekin of lukewarm beans, well overcooked bacon, a very poor sausage, the smallest portion of mushrooms I've seen in a long time, black pudding and and egg (these two items were fine), with toast. Our other friend ordered a American style breakfast with pancakes and was told they were out of pancakes. Are you serious? Eggs, flour, milk. After he ordered scrambled eggs on crumpets they came in with packet pancakes from Tesco.
The prices were, quite frankly, sky high for a cafe breakfast of mediocre quality. The Tetbury breakfast with a coffee was £13. My friends gloopy scrambled eggs in 2 shop bought crumpets a was over £10.
Needless to say, if we're ever up Tetbury way again we'll find somewhere...
Read moreWe used to come here fairly regularly on weekend bike rides but after a hiatus we were shocked to see a notice on the back gate today with a large crossed through "no cycling" sign and a note to say bicycles are not welcome, neither in the garden or in the carparking spaces. I do understand that it is a small courtyard garden but hardly think that in December this would be teeming with people sat outside. As we were reeling from the discriminatory notice a couple of other cyclists turned up and were also suitably appalled at the notice. I was hoping to also purchase a birthday gift and card as well as use the café but went elsewhere. If you want to go somewhere welcoming and cyclist friendly then the Wild Carrot just on the outskirts of Tetbury is remarkable and appreciate and provide for cyclists...
