Good food and nice owner. The service elsewhere could be improved.
Attitude of service from our server was a little cutting during our visit. Less than courteous and with a little attitude throughout.
Two of our orders were wrong when brought out from the kitchen by a different member of staff who argued with us at the table that the order was correct and we were wrong, quite bizarre. He perhaps became flustered after this and spilt food on a member of our party. No real apology was given.
Separately from this, our server was not receptive, reassuring or caring regarding an allergy question, quite important these days as it is a legal requirement.
A babychino was suggested for our toddler and they declined to put it in a child safe cup we had brought with us. We were charged £2.50 for a small espresso cup of warm milk. This smacked a little of profiteering and was very poor value.
They will not deviate from a very specific menu and no alterations are permitted, I suspect this is in order to maintain their covers in a very busy establishment. This is not a criticism but worth bearing in mind if travelling with children as they have no specific children's options nor any willingness to help out.
Our food once correctly served was fresh, of high quality local ingredients and a credit to the establishment.
The owner took payment and was receptive and courteous regarding criticism, which is highly commendable, but we still walked away dissapointed...
Read moreIf the Cotswolds had a heartbeat, you’d hear it pulsing from inside The Hive. This isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a full-bodied symphony of warmth, flavor, and quiet triumph. Walking in feels less like entering an eatery and more like being welcomed home after a long tour away. The staff don’t just serve you; they embrace you, radiating the kind of hospitality that dissolves jet lag, bad moods, and existential crises in one smile.
And then—oh, the drinks. The coffee arrives not as a mere caffeinated necessity but as a postcard from Melbourne, barista-crafted with that silky crema precision Australians demand in their DNA. The loose-leaf tea? Brewed like it had been rehearsed a hundred times, leaves unfurling into a liquid poem of balance and calm.
The food makes you want to stand up and slow clap. The Hive Breakfast isn’t just “big”—it’s operatic. Each element, from the eggs to the sausage to the mushrooms, plays its role like instruments in an orchestra hitting a perfect crescendo. The porridge, meanwhile, is quiet genius—a humble dish elevated to the level of art, creamy without excess, warming without weight, somehow both grounding and transcendent.
At The Hive, you don’t just eat—you participate in a communal ritual of joy disguised as breakfast. Five stars feels inadequate; this is the kind of place that makes you want to...
Read moreI’ve never previously written a public review on Google but I’ve had such a terrible experience at the Hive, I’ve been compelled to write this review.
I went to Hive for breakfast with my daughter, after it had been recommended as somewhere to eat. The food was admittedly good (although the choice was limited & it was overpriced) but the attitude of the person who served us was shockingly bad & spoiled the whole experience
We where rushed & I had to ask to be given a minute to make a decision on what to order, which in retrospect should of been a warning to leave. This persons manner was snooty, rude & intense. I’m not accustomed to being told where to walk & where to sit, the last time anyone spoke to me in that condescending manner was when I left primary school 39 years ago.
Maybe we where unlucky with the member of staff we encountered & on other occasion it would of been a very different experience but we won’t be going back, I left frankly feeling...
