This afternoon I walked past the Old Mill in Lower Slaughter. Pre-pandemic, it also had a lovely Riverside Cafe. Sadly, there is no date when it will reopen. However, if you're looking for refreshments you can buy an ice cream. They're not cheap though. Today the amiable owner Gerald was chatting with one of the customers as he served ice cream through the shop window. "I apologise there are no flakes. There is a global shortage of them. Would you believe they are made in Egypt?" The shop itself sells antiques, leather goods, classic country style clothes, maps and quality Cotswolds souvenirs. The Old Mill has two adjacent buildings. It appears the museum is just the shop now (but I just went looking for the cafe so can only report on that). Lower Slaughter is beautiful but you're unlikely to find anywhere else to eat: the other hotels seemed to be permanently pre-booked but do check first.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "A photographer's dream and absolute must-visit spot in the Cotswolds! Get there early morning to experience the Old Mill in perfect tranquility - the sound of the water wheel, morning light on the moss-covered timbers, and spring flowers make it magical. The contrast between the red brick mill, historic Cotswold stone, and emerald moss is stunning. The River Eye creates a perfect backdrop, and the whole scene feels like stepping back in time. Pro tip: arrive before 9am to capture this iconic spot without crowds and enjoy the best light. Don't miss the little museum and shop inside too. Lower Slaughter itself is one of the most picturesque villages in the Cotswolds - well worth spending a peaceful morning here. Perfectly preserved piece of Cotswold history!"

We been here 3 times and have wonderful memories. The first time it was just two of us , my wife who was pregnant and myself bought one of the big mushroom stones and a small one. The second time, it was three of us with our first child and bought another big mushroom stone. The last time it was again three of us but my wife was pregnant with our second child and so we bought a small mushroom stone to make it four of them just like us. Now we have baby no.3 and can't wait to make our journey to there to buy the last small mushroom stone but they are closed...All the best to the shop owner and thanks for the great stones!!! Hope this shop will open again and we can go buy our last one although we are now living in the other side of the world, South Korea.
