I don’t know how to reply the owner’s comment so have to edit here: My dog only barked 6 times during the whole period, and you came to warn us at the 3rd time she barked. I explained to you the reason I put her on my knee is to comfort her so that she won’t bark. But you said she will need to be out if she barks again and not allow me to keep her at the knee. There are no complaints or disturbing from others in there as I mentioned they even asked whether can pet my dogs. The way you talked to me made me very uncomfortable and considering the impact to others I would like to explain my feeling here, It’s not anonymous feedback here as you obviously remember us. I found your place due to the google review, so I think I should leave my real experience here as well for others’ reference. It was supposed to be a relaxed and joyful weekend afternoon for the cream team, but we didn’t feel that way because the way we were treated.
I had really bad experience here, not sure whether this one is dog friendly but there is another family with their dog there, and we were allowed with our two little ones. One of my dogs was a bit nervous seeing the other bigger dog there so barked occasionally, usually if I held her she will be ok. But the owner (the man) doesn’t allow me to hold her at my knee, and said if she still barks she need to be let out. I was literally shocked and couldn’t believe what I heard. This is a relaxed and sunny Sat afternoon, and I wasn’t expecting this from a tea room. The dogs are generally all welcomed in Cotswolds area, except this one. The most importantly my dog wasn’t behaving abnormally at all, and no complaints from other customers due to her occasional bark, another girl even came for petting her. The way owner treated us was very rude, scone wasn’t good as what I expected, the one from Gail’s is not worse than it. It’s good they treat their business seriously, but their business is the customer focused one, I hope they understand the experience of customers are the essential. We drove two hours down here due to the great reviews in google, but very disappointing, it’s not relaxed, we felt being monitored, judged and criticised all time when...
Read moreBest tearoom in England - food and service were amazing. Having visited numerous top-rated tearooms (15+), recommended/known for their 'scones' during our holiday in UK, this place is definitely on the top of the list! The scones with clotted cream and jam (generous portions) were absolutely amazing, crunchy on the outside and freshly baked - hot from the oven. The only other time my husband and I had tasted something even remotely close to this was during a luxury afternoon tea experience in the centre of London, which was about 10 times the cost ... but without the same standard of friendly service that we experienced in this tearoom.
There is a good reason for the limited seating - Alan & Jackie (husband/wife team) are in charge of running the entire place by themselves so that they can maintain the quality of experience. While Jackie is busy with cleaning&producing homemade food for the customers, Alan juggles between serving the customers, and making sure that everyone receives the opportunity to chat with him. He visited our table multiple times for a friendly conversation and did not rush us out even though it was closing time! He made everyone feel like it was coming 'home'. We loved it so much that we decided to return and squeeze in another visit just before our departure flight!
If you have the chance to visit, I highly recommend you to read their testimony (sitting on the table) and hopefully it will provide you with some insight into why they are so wonderfully set apart from...
Read moreWe popped into The Old Bakery Tearooms for lunch and was warmly greeted by the host. We were originally sat by a noisy fridge/freezer, but I politely requested a move to a quieter part of the dining area.
The menu was fairly simplistic, but offered fresh wholesome ingredients. I ordered the warm goats cheese salad and my wife ordered a cheese salad (which wasn't on the menu). The warm goats cheese salad was very tasty and looked just as the photo in the menu, my wife's cheese salad was more akin to a ploughmans with large chunks of cheese and not a lot of greenery Both meals were of a good proportion and hearty. The host popped over to check on us a couple of times and was warm and chatty.
The only thing I would mention to any potential customers is that the hosts sadly had a suicide in their family a few years ago and it obviously affected them very deeply. I understand they are of the Christian faith and seemed very pleased to communicate their sons sad death via various books and pamplets on the dining tables. We found this quite perturbing and a little off-putting. Obviously it's their business and they wear their hearts on their sleeves, however it felt like we were intruding in their grieving process. I must admit we've not experienced this before... however if it gives them inner strength then fair enough.
I hope this review is taken in the spirit in which it...
