The staff were really friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was excellent - this was included in the Expedia price. You could pay extra for a cooked breakfast if wanted but there was really no need. The location, for Stow on the Wold, couldn’t be bettered. Downstairs had some ‘rustic charm’ which was fine, just the right side of characterful. |Unfortunately our room was not so great. It was small but I guess that’s the price we paid so I can’t really complain about that. But our view was of the fire escape, the curtain rail was falling off the wall, the TV cable and power box hanging down, a handle kept falling off the wardrobe door and the floorboards were so uneven and squeaky that it made us conscious how much noise we were making just walking in the room. But our main issue was the noise outside our room. When the people in the room next door went in or out their room (which they seemed to be doing all night) the door was so close that it sounded, and the vibrations felt, like they were coming in ours. When they talked outside our room it sounded like they were in our room talking to us. And just outside the room was a fire door which banged every time it closed, which was often. We could hear the cleaners vacuuming at 7am and the constant hum of a communal milk fridge just outside the door. Obviously I’ve no idea what the other rooms are like - maybe we were just unlucky. It was a shame because the other aspects of the hotel were good but we wouldn’t go back based on the state of our room...

If you don't expect too much, and are only passing through for one night and don't mind the high cost of the room (and restaurant), then go ahead and book it. We spent three night here, and that was too long as our room didn't accommodate us wanting to hang out in it and use it. We had a superior room and it had only one chair. We wanted to watch some sports on the TV and asked for another chair. Sorry, no chair, not even a folding chair. Do you like to drink your morning tea standing up? We asked for a luggage rack. Sorry, no luggage racks. We wanted to read in the room which was way to dark, little natural light. No reading lights, not even at the bed. The only good light for reading was sitting on the toilet by the window, during the day. The continental breakfast was substandard. They didn't replace anything that was missing unless one complained; who wants to beg for fresh fruit? If I wanted coffee, I had to get up and get the pot and pour it myself. All of this made if a huge mistake for our 3-day needs, and it cost us a bundle of money on top of it. We did have one good dinner in the restaurant, thus the second star. Oh, the staff . . .apart from the manager, a friendly chap, the rest of the staff were completely indifferent and somewhat unfriendly. Maybe it was the end of the season and they were "tired," being in September, but the effect is still the same on...

Lovely place great location a d the staff make it extra special dur to their smiley faces and efficient service. Nothing is too much trouble. Donna was a joy in the mornings and made the breakfast times extra special. Very attentive e en though it was obvious she was really busy. If didn't effect us as she was always on hand when we needed anything. The dogs were made welcome too which is always very nice and staff were great at guiding us where to go visiting The rooms were very quaint but in need of a little TLC. Paintwork needs touching up. Tiles need replacing and securing and little nooks and crannies need a good clean. The shower screen seal needs attenson and the mould on the wall near the shower screen. These things however would not stop us coming back because I'm hoping the management are working their way through the rooms and seeing to all these little jobs. Unfortunately. It is Marc that would stop us returning as we found him rude and unwelcoming just couldn't be bothered. Good job his staff care more about the place than he seems to do. As if it wasn't for them. Nobody would return. I just hope he treats them well and appreciates it's them that keep people coming back. If he's not happy Baybe he should retire and appoint one of his absolutely brilliant staff to run it. Is nice to see a smile and someone who cares about what...

The Stag at Stow - great location, wonderful accommodation and fantastic staff! We visit The Cotswolds as often as we can and Stow-on-the-Wold is probably most people's idea of a typical Cotswolds village. The Stag at Stow offers boutique hotel rooms, a lively bar and the most fabulous food (try the blue cheese butter with your steak... divine!). Credit should really go to the Head Chef and his team because the restaurant is the perfect place for an evening meal. We always feel that a stay is made more special by the welcome offered. The staff at The Stag were some of the best we've had the pleasure of meeting, making us feel like valued guests and not just customers. There is parking available at the rear of the hotel (useful in a busy village like Stow), plus a relaxing private garden to take your drinks out into. Breakfast includes both hot and continental, with good quality produce. The Stag at Stow comes highly recommended and should certainly be on your short-list of Cotswolds hotels.

We stayed 4 nights in DOE room after being upgraded when we arrived. The room had no chest of drawers for unpacking 4 days worth of clothes so had to keep everything in suitcase on floor. There was a hanging rail. Just one hard kitchen chair to sit on so had to sit on bed when in room. Decor very scruffy and cleanliness of walls in both the room and bathroom needs attention. Many hard sticky patches on wooden floor in bedroom. Photo of room on website is misleading. Ate in the bar our first evening and food was very hot and tasty. Breakfast selection was adequate but no fresh fruit on offer at all. We preferred to eat across the square at The Queen's Head. Very disappointed and wouldn't recommend though Stow is lovely and well situated to visit surrounding villages.

We stayed here for 1 night! Lovely characteristic traditional inn which is really decorated well throughout! Our room was lovely spacious and clean, with the age of the building it can be loud and we were woken up a few times just from various noises! Food in the evening was lovely huge portions and quick service definitely book in advance though as they fill up fast! Staff were lovely and helpful but the dinner service they seemed overwhelmed. We had breakfast included but not made aware its just continental that's included and if you want hot you have to pay extra and the extra is very expensive! I enjoyed what it was but I don't know if I would stay again with the cost and what is actually included
