I am mindful this might have been a once off experience due to short staffing, but my family and I had a terrible time here this Sunday. I called in the day before to book for a large table of 7 adults and two toddlers, and they were happy with our booking. We got there and it basically empty with no staff on sight, and we had to go ask about our reservation. Once seated, we had to inquire about how to order food and drink (at the bar). My husband and I got two lattes, which were mostly milk (we think they split one espresso between the two). Three of us ordered off the food menu, and we ordered a toddler meal while the rest went and lined up for an egregious amount of time for the Carvery. By the time my partner sat with his roast, there was barely anything left from the carvery line to put on his plate. An hour and a half in, no other food showed up for anyone else. When we inquired, we were told the kitchen was too busy and we would get a refund. The refund was kind, but it would have been good to know before we got there they wouldn't have been able to handle additional orders as we would have gone elsewhere (not everyone could eat the carvery as there were no vegetarian options). We left with only half the table having eaten. I cannot rate the quality of the food as I never got to eat any of it. We will not be going back, which is a shame as it's a local establishment in...
Read moreHad a brilliant time at the Old Clarence the other day. When we walked in the place, it looked clean and inviting. The staff were brilliant and friendly and went out of their way to spend time having a chat with you to make you feel welcome. It was a nice touch to be made to feel welcome and great to find out about the place. We looked at the menu and struggled on what to choose from the selection. I can be pretty picky, but there were plenty of options to choose from. We went and ordered some food and the meals were really lovely. We didn't have a long wait for them to come out and had no problems with them at all. All meals were well presented as well. The garden area is nice and spacious with a nice heater on those cold, wet afternoons with plenty of seating. I hope to try it out in the summer when we have nice weather which will be nice. Definitely will be coming back again, there's plenty more Gins and meal options to try out. It's a shame we don't live closer. Thanks, guys, for everything! Keep up...
Read moreThis is a lovely local pub, very welcoming and inclusive. Great for a relaxed meal with family and friends, or an enjoyable evening out. I sometimes take my dog along with me to this dog friendly pub, which also has a nice beer garden. The food is fantastic and the prices of both food and drink are excellent. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. Plenty of significant sports events are shown on their tv's, and most recently I was grateful to be able to watch the national moment of reflection live at the pub for her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and it was a moving yet beautiful experience, Jazz and the team delivered the evening with great dignity, unity and compassion. I look forward to visiting the pub...
