I really want to love Millsys because I live in Earlsdon so it’s nearby and I like that it’s busy and has a lively feel, but the food consistently lets it down. I’m writing this review after brunch with my daughter this morning where the food was, as is often the case, just “meh” and it’s frustrating because the things that let it down could be so easily fixed. Today I had bacon sandwich with fried egg: it was fine but just had a load of little annoyances - and I know I sound like I’m being picky but I could have done better at home which kind of defeats the object of going out. Bacon was nice and so was the bread but three things: both slices of sourdough had been cut so badly they were about 1mm thick at the end and that had meant the ends were crispy and burnt; the chef hadn’t buttered the bread, butter was provided, but I had to take the sandwich apart, including runny egg, butter it, then remake it; the egg had been cut I think from a pan of fried eggs meaning it was tiny and weirdly angled with loads of the white missing, which was annoying when the fried egg was £1.50 extra and I think there was about 1/2 fried egg on the sandwich. It was a nice egg though! Also there was a hair in the egg which I had to cut out. By that point I’d already asked for different bread and I didn’t want to make a total nuisance of myself by pointing this out. The hash brown bites are good but were over cooked and overseasoned so I think they were only good in that they are potato and onion which is always good, but they could have been A LOT better. Millsys is an okay option if you’re local and want somewhere convenient to while away a bit of a Sunday morning but repeated visits show that the food quality just isn’t what they say or think it is, and the price isn’t justified because of that. I also wouldn’t travel there. Overall vibe is that when it comes to food they’re not bothered about...
Read moreNot impressed with this place today at all. Have eaten breakfast here a few times and have enjoyed it which is why we returned. As it was a Saturday morning I called the day before to see if we should book as there was 4 of us. I was told not to worry because if it is busy they will open up the restaurant upstairs for the overflow. Great I thought there won't be a problem. We arrived at 10am this morning and it was busy downstairs however the only free tables were the high tables with the high bar chairs as our party consisted of 3 adults and one toddler this was not a sutible option. I asked about sitting upstairs and said that I was advised on the phone the day before that this was an option. I was told that as the high chairs were free they would not open up upstairs and that we could either sit at the high tables or wait around 20mins for a sutable table to become free. Who wants to wait that long for breakfast when you have a toddler with you? We ended up going to cafe Zafiri's up the road where the staff we very friendly and accommodating. It was Clean and although there was not as much choice as millsys the coffee was much nicer and the food was lovely and it was alot cheaper than millsys. So I would like to thank millsys staff for been so unaccommodating as we have now found a much nicer place to go for...
Read moreCame for Saturday night out and were done in less than an hour (starter and main), far too quick for a night out. We were seated with menus and not asked if we wanted a drink whilst we looked at the menu, had to frantically wave to actually get a drink. Glanced at the menu online before booking and thought there was loads of choice but the reality is it's the same things repeated. Mash with most things, yuk it's nursery food and I don't like the texture; roasted veg I have a carrot intolerance so can't have, leeks and cabbage, I just don't like them. If there were different options I could have asked for a swap but there weren't. We both had the chorizo bravas as a starter it was delicious perfect crisp potatoes, loads of flavours in the sauce, but a super large portion, far too big for a starter (and I like eating!). He had the belly pork main, which he said was great but, the roast veg were a slither of a carrot and a slither of a parsnip and the portion was small (especially in comparison to the starter). I had the king prawn linguine, lots of prawns but overall the portion was a bit small and it had very little flavour, no taste of ginger; coriander or chilli and hardly any spinach. Sadly won't be...
