Old Shepherd — Restaurant in Coventry

We are regular customers at Old Shepherd, as it is located close to our home. Yesterday was my partner’s birthday, and we decided to celebrate it in a small gathering at your pub.

When we arrived at around 7:45 PM, we were informed that the kitchen had already closed. As we were very hungry after work, we asked a staff member if we could bring in food from a nearby takeaway. She assured us that it was absolutely fine.

However, when we returned with our food and sat down at our table, a man staff member (who did not introduce himself) suddenly approached us and started shouting, saying that outside food was not allowed. We explained that we had received prior permission, but he rudely insisted that it was against the rules. The way we were spoken to was unnecessarily aggressive, which ruined the atmosphere of our evening. As a result, we lost time and money, and what was meant to be a happy occasion was spoiled by this unpleasant encounter.

We fully understand that the pub may have its own policies, but why were we first given permission, only to be scolded afterwards? This was particularly disappointing as we are regular customers, and it happened on a...

What can I say, our second visit here and we were not disappointed! the standards from the last time we visited had sky rocketed it’s amazing! we saw some newer items on the menu and we had to give it a go. The chicken and rib platter was a piece of work! It took two of us to make a dent into the mountain of food and the taste was exemplary it was cooked to perfection nothing was over or under cooked and the skin on fries was a great touch to finish off the meal.

I’m not sure how but we managed to finish off a desert too! I opted for a lemon tart which was delicious amazing taste and you could definitely taste the lemon in there!

I will definitely be back in the summer as I heard they had some big plans.

Service was terrible we were told half hour wait after ordering but food took an hour to come out. There was no beef or turkey so all had the chicken roast which when it came was really disappointing the portion size was not enough for an adult and the quality was not good, the 2 small roast potatoes were cremated as was the stuffing ball that some of us got and some didn’t. My elderly mom sent hers back as it was only Luke warm and couldn’t eat any when it came back as she said it was a rubbish dinner. Overall a bad experience that spoilt Mother’s Day for what will most likely be my mums last one, I booked this pub as it came up on my Facebook probably as a result of cookies and I wish I had looked at reviews before...
