I don't know how Sear managed to get last night so wrong, from beginning to end.
Table for four booked for 7:30. We arrived at 7:25. We were sat at our table pretty quickly. The restaurant had a smoky smell and an obvious haze of smoke throughout.
A guy took our drinks order fairly quickly, we asked to order our food at that time, he said no, I'll come back. We also asked for water but it took a further two asks before it arrived. A lady nearby complained to them that it smelt of smoke.
We asked for the third time to place our order and did so at 7:48. Four mains with a couple of sides. When I asked, the guy said the extractor was working, but they had an issue with it. He said they needed to get Council permission to fix it. He opened a window when we asked him to.
Later, we heard a table next to us asking where their food was. They'd been sat down long before us and they complained it was taking too long.
By 8:20 ish a lady came and sheepishly apologised for our wait. She was the only person to come to us about the wait. None of those in charge bothered.
By 8:30 ish two chicken dishes were placed on the pass. They looked like they could be ours. They sat under the heat lamp for another 15 mins until 8:45 when they started to bring them over. I have no idea why they placed two meals sat waiting and then took another 15 minutes to cook two pieces of salmon. Very little, if any other food went out during that 15 mins. It was just all very, very, very slow.
When they started to bring the chicken that had been sat there for 15 mins, we asked them to take it back.
To have waited almost an hour to be given food that had just been sat (under a heat lamp) with the chips going cold and the coleslaw going warm for 15 mins? No thanks.
We asked to speak to who was in charge. The guy who took our order came over. He confirmed he was in charge. We discussed our hour wait and we said we were cutting our losses and were leaving. We asked what he wanted to do about the two bottles of wine we'd drank since we'd sat down 80 minutes earlier. He said not to worry about it, we didn't need to pay and walked away back to the kitchen.
As we passed the bar to leave, a different guy started waving a bill at my friends. We said the other guy had told us we didn't need to pay. He said he was the boss. We said we'd asked for the boss and the other guy had come over.
He argued with me that we'd waited an hour and said it was 30 minutes. It was by now knocking on for 8:55. We'd waited more or less an hour for food.
We stood discussing it. He was adamant we should pay, having been told we didn't have to. We asked him to get the guy who said not to bother. He came over and agreed he'd said that to us. Apparently, according to the actual boss, he's not in charge and shouldn't have told us we should just leave it and didn't need to pay for the wine. Guy number 1 said he was in charge of the table area, but not the boss. Not really our issue is it?
From a customer service point of view, I really don't know why guy number 2 insisted on going back on what the 'person in charge ' had told us. Guy number 1 moved away.
According to guy number 2, the ridiculous wait wasn't really their fault either as they'd had lots of walk ins.
He apologised, but it's pretty empty when you've waited so long to be presented with food that isn't fresh, still haven't eaten and are being told to pay for something you were told not to by someone else. He continued to say we should pay for the wine.
We agreed we'd pay for one bottle.
Such a shame because the ambience (apart from the smoke) was really nice and it's a varied menu.
We left. Walked over to The Royal Bengal and had a great meal with friendly and efficient service. We paid, added a...
Read moreWent with a friend Tuesday evening very quiet only 2 other couples present, found the Steaks priced slightly on high side £28-36 depending on type, although they do a basic £21 version. We both Opted for the 10 Oz Sirloin £28.
Steak was cooked exactly as requested medium-rare. Mushroom sauce, Peppercorn sauce, Cowboy sauce But .. Would have liked a Blue cheese sauce with steak but not available waiter explained something they're looking at.
Could have given more chips which cost very little against the overall price of meal - I did ask, would have been a nice surprise & delight feature and encourage diners to return.
Drinks Very Very Expensive ordered a non alcoholic beer & lemonade each came in tiny bottles, cost for both ~£7
We had a £10 voucher, so it reduced bill slightly, but would not go again as it's Expensive versus other places esp Some Gastro pubs offering better value.
Finally, largest steak offered is 14 Oz would be nice if they offered a Larger 20 Oz+ Option for bigger Appetites.
Verdict. Overall fine if you want to experience a nice meal with a group of friends celebrating, but will soon drain your pocket if you make it...
Read moreThe experience at Sear was outstanding from start to finish. We began with the starters, which set the tone perfectly—crispy calamari that was light and golden, paired with a tangy dipping sauce, lamb chops cooked to perfection and the dynamite prawns, which are a must try! Each starter felt thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented and generously portioned.
For the main course, the steak was nothing short of exceptional. Cooked exactly to order, it arrived sizzling hot with a perfect char on the outside and a tender, juicy center. The cut was high quality, bursting with flavor.
The customer service was equally impressive. The staff were friendly and attentive. Our server Jay checked in just enough to make sure we were comfortable, and the overall hospitality made the meal feel relaxed and enjoyable.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – A must-visit steakhouse where both the food and service exceed...
