I've been calling in here since soon after it opened many years ago. It was a small Indian sweets shop to which were added cafe elements in the original small and cramped corner property. Since then it has expanded driven by footfall, fashion and demand and that has caused problems. I saw exactly the same with the original Balti houses on the Ladypool Road in Birmingham.
It is still, essentially, a cafe and NOT a restaurant. If it is taken as that then it is fine - except for the queues and the snide comments from those who try to compare it with restaurant expectations. Much of the food is pre-cooked and microwaved to eat . . . that's fine for me but if you look down your nose at cafe practices then stay away.
Unfortunately popularity has pushed up prices and reduced portion size however it is still reasonable value and if you go at a quiet time it will be an enjoyable experience. Incidentally if you smile and treat the proprietors and staff as people then they will respond likewise. If you are condescendingly snotty as if visiting on tolerance then they won't and, my, have I seen some priceless 'princes and princesses' slumming here.
I've given it four stars as a 'restaurant' rather than five as a sweet shop and cafe . . . . and now I'm off for a late lunch there taken by my son now in his 20s and earning and who ate here as a baby . . . He still likes to suck his jellabi though now...
Read moreI had an absolutely terrible experience at this restaurant due to shockingly bad customer service. The girl working at the till had an awful attitude, treating customers with blatant disrespect. She wasn’t just rude to me—she gave everyone unpleasant looks, talked back to customers, and made us all feel uncomfortable. We are paying customers, not getting served for free, and deserve to be treated with basic respect.
To make matters worse, I was offered food without any spoon or forks, and when I asked for them, she rudely responded, "Come and take it." I was shocked. What’s even more disappointing is that they don't wear hand gloves or chef hats while preparing or serving food to customers. This lack of hygiene is unacceptable.
I’m stunned that a reputable restaurant would hire someone with such poor manners and unprofessional behavior. This was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had, and I will never return to this place again. There are plenty of other options for Indian restaurants in Coventry, and I would highly recommend exploring those instead. I hope the restaurant takes necessary action to uphold...
Read moreI recently visited this establishment and unfortunately, had an unpleasant experience with one of the staff members. The individual in question, who appeared to be of Indian descent, exhibited a dismissive attitude towards customers who were not of the same background. Her behavior was unprofessional, and she did not demonstrate the customer service skills one would expect in a retail environment.
It was disappointing to encounter such a lack of courtesy, as customer service is a key component of any business. I would strongly suggest that management provide additional training to ensure that all customers are treated with respect and fairness, regardless of their background. This will not only improve the customer experience but also enhance the reputation of the shop.
