I visited The Akeman on a family meal to celebrate the end of term. Three adults, one teenager and a toddler who only woke up at dessert. One vegetarian and three meat eaters. It was a lovely meal and I was really impressed. The drinks were amazing with lovely cocktails that are definitely on the strong side. Great mocktails and bear too. The service was great with really lovely staff and attentive waiting. The starters were amazing, the halumi crisps are incredible. The calamari was enjoyed by frequent calamari eaters. Vegetarians! And even you non veggies. The portabuelo mushroom and halumi burger was INCREDIBLE. It had salad, houmous and a red onion marmelade. Scrumptious. The pork belly was enjoyed and came with crackling that made the table jealous. The venison lasagne was enjoyed but a surprise for those watching calories as it has layers and layers of brie over the top! The chicken sandwich was also delicious. The desserts were not the best part of the meal but were nice. The Irish coffee was great. The brownie was enjoyed by a fussy toddler. The sticky toffee pudding is mostly thick treacle and actual too much for a sweets and dessert lover. It was still nice though. There was a family party next to us and the place seemed family friendly with a classy edge to it! Overall an amazing meal out with a nice price on the end for the food, service and overall experience!

The staff are absolutely lovely and there’s no doubt it’s a beautiful restaurant but the food is just kind of okay. I wouldn’t rush back. I was so looking forward to a fish finger sandwich after seeing it on the menu online but what I actually got was some sort of crispy thing - maybe a panini, I’m not sure what to call it, which was quite crunchy. Add that to the fish that was mostly crunchy batter, and it was rather difficult to eat!! The roof of my mouth is still destroyed 😂 The tartare sauce and accompanying salad were delicious. The chips were okay but not the hottest. My friend had the mushroom eggs Benedict thing but the muffin was really tough and she had trouble cutting it. My dessert was an apple pie that was 80% pastry, and some very sour apple slices in the bottom which I abandoned. Brownie was apparently very good. Although we weren’t in a hurry and were happy to chat, the whole lunch took two and a half hours, which was a while given it wasn’t busy. Altogether not terrible but not fab either.

We were a party of 4 for an evening meal. We've been to the Akeman many times before. Initially, we were a little concerned how much the prices had gone up but the qualty of service, food, and drink more than made up for that. I had mistakenly booked the Akeman, Aylesbury (which I didn't know existed) but the staff sorted a table out for us. This was extremely accommodating, especially as the pub was very busy. We had a couple of starters (soup, gralic bread) and 2 Beef Brisket mains (off of the specials list), Sea Bass, and a Pizza. We then had the Cookie dough and Sticky Toffee pudding for desserts. All were simply excellent and couldn't be faulted. All washed down with a lovely Malbec and Espresso Martini (which was mixed to perfection). Service was attentive, friendly, and efficient throughout. We really couldn't fault a thing. Thanks again for being so swift and accommodating for the initial mix up. You made our evening.

This place is truly stunning. Plenty of seating in the pub sections and drinks are of high quality and reasonably priced. I visited on a Tuesday evening to which at the time of our visit (around 6pm) it was not very busy and we didn't book for a table in the restaurant. We was seated straight away to which the staff are all generous and very nice. Our food all arrived promptly and hot. The quality of food is very high and tasted amazing and all very well prepared. The bill came to around £60/70 for 2 people (1 drinking alcohol) for a 3 course meal. I believe the food was reasonably priced as the quality was really good and the service too. As our meal came to an end (around 8pm) the place was starting to get busy so I would recommend booking a table in advance to avoid disappointment. They have a lovely seating area outside to which when the weather is nice can be enjoyed to it full potential. Overall, highly recommend.
