We came here for lunch, having walked past a few days previously and found the intoxicating aroma of curry leaves wafting in the street outside worth a future investigation. It was a quiet afternoon, with only a few other punters in, so service was quick, and the atmosphere was very peaceful. We had the tea shop snacks to start, which were really good; quite different to the usual poppadom and chutneys on offer in most Indian restaurants. The tangy chutneys were particularly nice, especially the coconut one. I opted for the vegetarian thali, while my partner had a chicken curry, which he really liked. I also had a mango lassi, which was an excellent accompaniment to my absolutely delicious meal. Beginning with a lentil soup, which was fantastic, my thali had a fabulous variety of dishes, only some of which I could recognise/identify; I loved all of them, especially the cabbage poriyal, the bean thoran, and the mushroom masala, which was exceptional. The paratha was easily the flakiest, crispiest, most delicious I’ve had. We also tried the appam, which we both loved, neither of us having ever had it before. Dessert was a sort of payasam, which was really nice. Most of the dishes include mustard seeds, curry leaves and coconut in some form, so these flavours dominate much of what’s on the menu, giving the food a very distinctive character which sets it apart from the north Indian food we usually get here in the UK. We absolutely loved our meal and are looking forward to returning soon! As a vegetarian, I eat (and cook) a lot of Indian food, and as a Hemel resident I can confidently say this is my new favourite local Indian restaurant. I can’t wait to try more from their menu.

Today I visited this lovely restaurant "The Cochin, Hemel Hempstead". I have tried some 6+ Kerala Restaurants in UK but this place has some taste. I tried Mint Prawn in starter and in main course I tried Fish in Banana Leaf, one lamb dish and one chicken dish with Appam and Parotta. And I can assure you one thing, the food has the authentic taste of Kerala!!. Also staff were really friendly they gave us some good suggestions and we throughly enjoyed each of those dishes. And when I offerd some extra tip to them, they suggested that this bill already includes service tax and I should not give any additional tip to them.. Theese guys really doing very good job at this cozy place on High Streets of Hemel Hempstead. If you like Kerala Food and enjoy South Indian dishes then I will highly recommend this place. You must visit!!!

4.5 stars. With a lovely setting in Hemel’s Old Town, if you want something a bit different from your standard Indian restaurant, you can’t go wrong with Cochin, which specialises in Keralan cuisine. The restaurant is quite small with an intimate atmosphere. There are a variety of dishes on the menu from dosas, to fish dishes, or the crab curry. All are delicious and portions are generous. We loved the crab curry. You might avoid it if you don’t like anything fiddly, due to having to dig the meat out of the shells, but for us it was worth the effort. The dosa looked very impressive and was enormous, as well as tasty. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Hemel Hempstead.

My recent visit to Cochin in the Old Town Hemel Hampstead , a widely recognized South Indian Restaurant was an absolute delight that left my taste buds dancing with joy. From the moment I stepped in, the warm and inviting ambiance to set the stage for what turned out to be an unforgettable culinary experience.

The menu boasted a wide array of authentic South Indian dishes, and I was thoroughly impressed by the attention to detail in each dish. The flavors were rich and robust, with the perfect balance of spices that brought out the true essence of South Indian cuisine.

I started with the classic Masala Dosa, which was nothing short of perfection. The crispy exterior and the flavorful potato filling inside were a match made in heaven. The accompanying coconut chutney and sambar added an extra layer of deliciousness.

Moving on to the main course, the Mango Fish Curry stole the show. The tender pieces of Kind Fish steaks were soaked in a fragrant and spicy gravy that had me reaching for more and more. Paired with a generous portion of aromatic steamed rice and Appam, it was a match made in culinary heaven.

The service was impeccable, with the staff being both friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They were more than willing to provide recommendations based on my preferences, making the dining experience even more personalized.

To conclude, my visit to the South Indian Restaurant was a gastronomic journey that left me craving for more. The flavors, ambiance, and service all came together to create a truly memorable experience. If you're a fan of authentic South Indian cuisine, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit. I can't wait to return and explore more of their...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Cochin Restaurant, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. Here’s why:

Authentic Kerala Flavors: The food at Cochin is a delightful celebration of Kerala’s culinary heritage. Each dish carries the unmistakable taste of the region, transporting you to the sun-kissed backwaters and lush spice plantations. Reasonable Prices: Cochin strikes the perfect balance between quality and affordability. You won’t break the bank here, yet you’ll savor dishes that rival those prepared in Kerala homes. Impeccable Service: The staff at Cochin knows how to make guests feel welcome. When I arrived with my 2-year-old daughter, they greeted us with warmth and ensured our comfort throughout the meal. Biryani Bliss: If you’re a biryani enthusiast, Cochin’s biryani is a must-try. Fragrant rice, tender meat, and a symphony of spices come together in a harmonious dance of flavors. In summary, Cochin Restaurant is a hidden gem for anyone seeking an authentic taste of South Indian and Kerala cuisine in Hempstead. Whether you’re a seasoned foodie or a curious traveler, this place won’t disappoint. Bon...
