We’ve had takeaway from Charm multiple times and we have also eaten in. We’ve previously left a 5* review as the food has always been plentiful and really tasty.
My opinion on the food hasn’t changed but you no longer get rice with all stir fry dishes. This wasn’t clear when ordering so we ended up with two main courses and no rice. Not ideal but lesson learnt. We ordered again, this time with sticky rice. The portion size of rice wasn’t great and the quality was not good. It was like eating cardboard.
But here is the real issue… I now think they’ve become too expensive for a takeaway. Yes the food is great but I think they’ve priced themselves out of the takeaway market by the time you add on delivery and service fee. The sticky rice was £4.38 (for a tiny portion of rice). It’s £3 for a kg of jasmine rice in Tesco so the profit margins are huge. Prawn crackers are also £4.38 (£3 in our local Chinese). A main course is £13+ in contrast to our local Chinese which is £6+ and our local Indian is £8.50+. I expect to pay more for the quality of this Thai food but 100% more for a main course is steep which is why the free rice included in the price made it worthwhile. Without that it really is over priced for a takeaway.
We will order again but it will now be as a treat not a regular thing.
I’m leaving this feedback as constructive criticism in the hope that Charm Thai will reconsider offering the rice as part of the meal or at least reconsider their takeaway prices. Our local Indian restaurant also offers 10% off takeaways, maybe this is something they could consider?
For nearly £40 at Charm we got two main courses and a tiny portion of dry sticky rice between us. In contrast at our local Chinese and Indian restaurants we get starters, main courses, a rice each and prawn crackers at the Chinese and naan bread at the Indian. Quite a contrast in volume of food for the price. The food quality of all three options is really good. I’m sharing this information purely to make the point about the prices being steep when comparing to the...

We ordered the Massaman curry, Som Tam (green papaya salad), raw prawns with spicy seafood sauce, and tom yum soup. Every dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented.
