I love it when you say "come on let's go and try somewhere new" and you come across somewhere like Zammuto's.
I, like a lot of people looked at the menu when deciding where to go and thought why so cheap? Everyone likes a bargain these days but I don't want to ruin one of the few nights out we have by being too thrifty. Should we just go to the 'other' steakhouse that's very close that I've been to previously who, in all honesty serve great food!!?
Well, as my opening statement may indicate, we're glad we didn't opt out!!
Now, don't get me wrong there are a few things that weren't particularly to our liking such as the slightly uncomfortable pallet style high back seating booths with a thin (ours slightly aged) seat pad. But these things are very minor and not enough to even mention to the staff at the time, who I am sure would have made an immediate effort to correct. I only mention in hope that the owners read and consider an improvement so this doesn't restrict business in future and allows customers to focus on the quality of food being served.
And on that note, we opened the evening with a bottle of valpolicella and a bruschetta starter, which was very nicely assembled and testament to the fact that simple things done well can be a real asset to the menu. Plus I love garlic and this will certainly keep people who don't, away from you for a few hours/days!!
We then had the 8oz fillet and also the surf and turf with upgraded 10oz steak. Both steaks were amazing quality and cooked exactly as we had asked. I loved the butterflied king prawn in what tasted like a Chinese style/five spice oil and it went well with my order and sides. Some of the sides are modest portions however, you need to try the garlic mushrooms and the fratelli carrots!!!
Because the main course wasn't a total "gluttony fest" and we hadn't eaten in anticipation of the night out, we also opted for a dessert, tiramisu and the lemon tart with ice cream. No arguments there for us, the tart won hands down. Would be interested to know if this was made by the restaurant or bought in!?! But either way, who cares as it tasted fantastic and finished the evening off well!!

Read moreVisited last saturday, firstly once seated me and my wife was asked if we wanted a drink so we ordered drinks then we was left for twenty minutes before we was asked if we wanted another drink, so same again we ordered more drinks then we was told by the waiter give me ten minutes we will take your order we dont want the chef to get into a frenzy with too many orders, eventually we were asked what we wanted both me and my wife declined starters but then was told it would be a 40 minute wait if we didn't order starters, so my wife ordered two lamb chops, when they arrived they came on a massive plate with two tiny lamb chops half a cherry tomato a piece of cucumber and two tiny bits of lettuce, my wife was so hungry she ate them in two bites and the salad was an insult. 50 minutes later the food arrived a piece of steak on a plate for £13.99 plus sides had to be paid for seperate at various costs we had onion rings garlic mushrooms and chunky chips what a joke 8 chips each, two onion rings and a few garlic mushrooms and two sauces which had to be purchased sepetately also lets just say the sides we ordered were winning no prizes and to me and my wifes amazement the tomato ketchup on our table was being passed around the restaurant for everyone to use oh and my wifes chair fell through which ment she had to stand up and wait for a chair to be brought from the cellar. So to some it all up if you want 2 hours wait for your food, to be forced to have a starter and happy to recieve enough food to feed a sparrow this is your restaurant if not...
Read moremyself and my husband wanted to go somewhere different for our wedding anniversary so we booked at zammuto we travelled 30 miles on arrival we were greeted at the bar and taken to our table we wanted a booth for a romantic evening there were none available so i suggest you rerevev a booth on reservation we were put in the middle of the restaurant which wasnt very romantic we ordered our starters and mains the couple next to us finished so we exchanged tables with them which was a bit better. 10 mins later the waiter came and told us they had run out of lamb for my husband's starter so he changed his starter to pawns 5 mins after that the waiter came again and told us they had run out of onion rings my husband was starting to get cross as a special evening we had travelled to was turning in to a not so special evening. our starters came my husband nearly chocked on his starter as his pawns were warm and he does not like warm pawns but the, starter didn't state warm pawns. so he left all his starter, the waitress found this funny we didn't. the mains came and after no onion rings we chose a salad. the steak was the best steak we had both ever had cooked to our perfection which I suppose made up for the no lamb and no onion rings we then chose a pudding each to be told they had run out if both our choices which then again put a damper on the occasion. we chose different puddings which they had in they were lovely. the bill came up to £55 they didn't offer nothing free or take anything of the bill due to our...
