RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL STAFF WHO MESS UP YOUR ORDER
The overweight brown haired barmaid messed our order up and put down a cheeseburger instead of a burger. No receipt was given to my partner. The waitress with brown hair came out and refused to swap the cheeseburger.
My partner went to the bar and the bar staff were very aggressive and ganged up on my partner. He had to buy another meal as they refused to refund or exchange the wrong burger. I had to speak to the manager as he came over and I said I just want the 2 other meals that we had paid for as my partner had eaten his meal. The manager was as bad as the bar staff and stuck up for them.
The manager came over later and said do you know you can order from the app. I said well the issue was there was no receipt which should have been given and might use the app so the order would be correct - I said this just to get rid of him as I felt he was gloating and gaslighting us. Why should we use an app, not all of us want to pay by card for everything and it is as though he is putting the blame on us for not using the app than the staff incompetence.
When my meal finally came out the burger was black and burnt. I did not complain as they don't care and won't sort the issue.
A member of staff pushed open the fire doors just to get everyone out of the building for a few minutes. Apparently customers said they did this the week before. Terrible 'customer service', that is why the staff can't get a job elsewhere.
Having to pay for 3 meals instead of 2 left us out of pocket. We could have gone to Brewers Fayre or Beefeater for the same price and be treated with respect and a good service.
It is rough as there is a bouncer on the door in the afternoon. I won't be going back to this pub if scumbags are just going to serve you and keep your money for...

The food is good and quite varied and is always hot, well presented and good value. Wetherspoon's sells some real ales and ciders backed by CAMRA- you get a discount with your card if you are a member. It is so great that you can ask for a free sample so you can try new drinks that are on draught without risking spending on something you don't like. There is also a large selection of bottled drinks. Various coffees, tea and hot chocolate are available and you can have re-fills of any using the cup you get when you first buy a hot drink. Refills are self- service and unlimited. I highly recommend the latte and hot chocolate which are especially lovely on a cold day in front of a lovely fire. The staff are definitely due a mention as they make this pub such a great place to spend a few hours. I have come to be happy to see their friendly faces and they get to know the regulars. Everyone is in the in-crowd at The Gatehouse. I have been 100s of times over the years and I can truly say I have never witnessed any trouble. I am quite certain too if I were a lone woman in town in need of help I could go to The GateHouse and be safe. I should mention that though the main toilets are upstairs there is one downstairs, accessible via a Radar key or a member of staff. Things of note also are a great selection of condiments to self- serve with meals, and the breakfasts in particular are delicious. Kevin is a really great member of staff- my personal favourite- and Roy( management) really knows his trade and runs an excellent seller. You can even request guest ales via a request box on the bar. Home from home- everyone...
